Im a freshman in ninth grade and i want to be able to take Calculus by my senior year. I cant double up on math and i am required to take a full year of geometry. Can i take algebra 2 or pre calculus during the summer? If so which one should i choose? BTW do i even need to take calculus in high school. i want to go to a good pre med school and eventually become a doctor.
i am interested in
UCLA
UCSD
UCSB

and pretty much any other good pre med school.

can you guys help me? do i need calculus in high school and if so, how can i take it?

“I cant double up on math and i am required to take a full year of geometry.”

Why? This seems like the simplest way. Geometry and Algebra II would work well together. You don’t need one for the other.

“Can i take algebra 2 or pre calculus during the summer?”

Yes, if school policies allow it. How would you be taking it? Online? At a college?
If you mean this summer, Algebra II needs to come before pre-calculus.
If you’re somehow required to take geometry at school, I don’t see how you wouldn’t be required to take Algebra II and pre-calculus at school too, though. If you can’t take geometry in the summer I’m not sure why you’d be able to take Algebra II in the summer.

“BTW do i even need to take calculus in high school.”

It’s not required at most places but it’s strongly recommended, especially if you’re going into science-related fields. Your competition will have taken calculus.

For the record, you don’t major in pre-med…you major in a subject and, while you’re at it, meet the requirements necessary to be eligible for medical school.

Why can’t you double up on Geometry and Algebra II? I’d recommend taking Pre-cal over the summer because all you really need to know is the trigonometric functions.

As to whether or not you could take a class over the summer, that would depend on the way your school works…I know at mine, it’s only for kids who failed a class.

If you want to be Pre-Med, you’re going to want to have had Calc in high school.
