I'm in college and still flushed with senioritis HELP?

I'm a freshmen this year in college, and I want to go to grad school - hopefully to a prestigious university. I CANNOT screw up.

It's Sunday morning right now, and I have yet to start on my shet load of homework. I procrastinate like none other. I have no idea why. Before my senior year in HS, I had a 3.9 unweighted GPA with loads of AP classes. I graduated with a 3.6 after senior year.

I'm not weak and I'm not trying to be funny. I seriously need advice about senioritis. I waste way too much time. I don't even know How, it just flies by me. ADHD?... perhaps... I'm actually being less productive right now than I was during summer, when I was getting involved in research and reading books. Now, I'm just playing ultimate and cramming my homework and tests to the night before.

I used to procrastinate as well, so I kind of know what you’re going through. But I realized that when I put things off until the last second, I got really stressed out. I hate that feeling. It’s much easier to just get stuff done and then have time afterwards to waste time (after all, when you’re procrastinating, you’re just wasting time on facebook, tv, friends, etc. – but you are stressed on top of it all). It just helps my mental health if I do my work as soon as possible.

Try it for a week and see you’ll see how much weight is lifted off of your shoulders. You won’t want to lose that feeling, so you’ll keep doing it.

That’s just my experience.

I had exact same problem, and might still have it actually.

I just got a 90 on my physics test so I’m really hoping the spell is broken.

What helped me is going to a really quiet place (6th floor of library) and just spending time on the material (past tests, hw, reading). Do that a couple times a week depending on course load. Everything else (like hw) should just be started at the beginning of the year as a habit. Also the fear of failing out of school helps.

Also, if you have trouble getting stuff done, try what I do. I try to get straight up homework (problem sets, questions, etc.) done during the day in between classes and stuff. That way I can use night time for studying and getting ahead, and everything isn’t royally screwed up if I don’t get a bunch of stuff done one night.

Thanks guys. Glad to know I’m not alone.

I’m going to miss sunday night football and the colts though.

Get off the internet. Quit *****ing about senioritis and other excuses. And just DO IT. It is called maturity and self discipline. It will never come if you don’t just quit making excuses for yourself and do it. If you are unable to do that you are not ready to be in college and should quit and get a job until you are ready. If that doesn’t sound appealing to you then I guess you had better get off CC and do your homework.

That may sound harsh, but that comes from the wake up call I got sophomore year having been in the same situation. You procrastinate and don’t get your work done because you make excuses for yourself, whether you do it consciously or not, and you let yourself off the hook until the last minute when you can’t anymore. If you just force yourself to act like a grown up and stop doing that you’ll be fine.

keep yourself busy dude. Staying in front of the computer screen can actually stress you out more. Go do some extracurricular activities, work out, find a job, study, etc. Do what you have to do, clean your nose, take a shower and step out of the door and look for something to do besides staying in front of the computer.
