I'm happy about being accepted to arts and sciences; looking through the coursebook, there are plenty of courses that I would love to take. As well, I love the idea of a liberal arts foundation. I'm truly excited, as there are tons of opportunities I can't wait to get a head-start on :)

Thinking everything over, though, I wouldn't mind studying some sort of undergraduate business. Now before everyone says "you should have applied AEM!!," let me say that I'm perfectly content in A&S, and it's not that big of a deal as my interests fit many majors here: French, information systems, possibly econ. etc. I'm just trying to figure out my options. I'm not sure if I want to major in econ though, as I'm not sure how much the subject matter appeals to me. I guess i'll take a class or two at Cornell to find out!

So...what are you guys thinking? Is it at all possible to do a minor in the hotel school? Or AEM?

Or, could I just take enough classes in both of those departments/schools with a A&S major, so that I will have enough of a business base?

No you cannot major in either Hotel or AEM as a CAS student.

However, you are free to take as many classes as you want and can get in to.

As a CAS student you should have enough freedom to take the courses you think are necessary for a good business base (although to be honest I have no idea what skills or knowledge you mean by a business base)

Don’t worry about not being able to officially minor in a program like AEM. Just take the classes that you’re interested in (which should be easy thanks to the flexibility of A&S), and you can note them as relevant courses on your resume when you apply to business internships/jobs.

The AEM minor is only available to CALS students…not sure if the Hotel school offers any minors at all, or if they’d be available to CAS students.

There’s a list of minors here that you can look at. PAM’s minor is pretty new, so I guess that’s why it isn’t listed.

countryangel- i’m duly impressed. You found a list of Undergraduate Minors. During all the years I’ve followed the cornell thread, I don’t think anyone was able to provide a definitive listing of available minors.

I suggest someone try to get this info “stickied”, as many people have wanted to see this type of info over the years.

Is it possible that Cornell is trying to make inter-college information a bit more accessible to all students??
