I'm in IT but I'm more drawn to Marketing

So I’m currently a senior and I have 51 credits to go until I graduate (I will become a “super senior”), my major is Information Technology Digital Enterprise which is basically a mix of web programming classes with business classes. But I’ll do a brief history catch-up. When I was a junior I was a software engineering major because I thought that I wanted to be able to create applications and what not. But the major just got way too difficult and I wasn’t really interested in my programming classes, I failed Advanced Statistics and Physics and well, and got on college probation because of that. (I was a transfer student but they didn’t count my previous classes I took at my community college as part of my GPA so that’s why I went on probation so easily because to them I came with a clean slate) However I was able to recover and get myself out by last Spring semester. During summer, I didn’t want to go through the hell anymore but I didn’t want to waste all of the programming and computer classes I took so the closet I could get to escape was to change my major to IT. I only had to take two more programming classes which I wasn’t too fond of because I hate programming as of this moment.

But this is where I want advice on, so in my major, I had to take a marketing class. And when I took that class, I felt that feeling of wow, I really like this stuff. I experienced the feeling of actually being excited to come to class and to read the textbooks. I ended up loving marketing so much that I decided to pick up a minor in marketing and also get a certificate in digital marketing, which is the area of marketing I’m most interested in. Now I’m struggling with one of the last programming classes that I’m taking right now. I have a 69 after the two midterms. But in my other classes which is digital marketing, elementary statistics, and into to business I actually have all A’s in and enjoying the classes. I’ve talked to my advisers and they don’t recommend I switch to marketing because I would have to start from the beginning, and I already have one year before I graduate. I would graduate a semester earlier if I took out the marketing minor but I’m not willing to let that go. I’m scared to fail that programming class and take it again, delaying my graduation. I don’t want to be kept in school just because of one stupid class. I also have to take IT major electives, which honestly when I read the description I don’t get too excited about. If I know that I want to be involved in marketing now, what is the point of me to take IT classes? I feel like it would be a waste of my tuition. I had this crazy idea to switch to communications while keeping my marketing minor and digital marketing certificate, and I looked at the credit hours, and it turns out its the same amount as if I were to stay in this degree. I also should include that I currently am part of the AMA (American Marketing Association) so I can get some marketing experience before I graduate so employers can take me seriously when I say I want to be part of marketing.

So I’m not sure what to do at this point, do I tough it out and major in IT but try to score a marketing internship and career after I graduate? Or do I switch to communications, which isn’t marketing I know, but I can at least take advertising classes and learn some graphic design on the side when having the communications degree and not pull my hair out with programming.

What would a digital marketing employer would most likely hire in all honesty, a communications or an IT major?

Also a note, if I stayed in Software Engineering I would have become a super senior anyway, because they have a ton of classes in their degree plan. I switched because the classes were getting too hard to handle.

I know this is a lot to read, but thanks for reading!
