I hate to say it, but it's true! I am so unbelievably back in love with the University.

confetti party whistles Auld Lang Syne

Congratulations!

throws rice

Now go on, you crazy kids, you! Enjoy your honeymoon :D

HA HA ha, the siren beckons

no, jk, pton's really really cool

i just watched video clips of past princeton commencements to hear the latin salutatory address...:( i <3 u princeton :(

Words the describe my feelings:

Vivamus, mea Princetonia, atque amemus
rumoresque senum severiorum...

Turn down the lights, turn down the bed.
Turn down these voices inside my head.
Lay down with me, tell me no lies.
Just hold me close, don't patronize.
Don't patronize me.

Cause I can't make you love me if you don't.
You can't make your heart feel
Something it won't.
Here in the dark,*
In these final hours
I will lay down my heart
And I'll feel the power
But you won't,*
No you won't.
Cause I can't make you love me,
If you don't.

I'll close my eyes, then I won't see.
The love you don't feel when you're holding me.
Morning will come and I'll do what's right.
Just give me till then to give up this fight.
And I will give up this fight...

Cause I can't make you love me if you don't.
You can't make your heart feel*
Something it won't.
Here in the dark, in these final hours.
I will lay down my heart
And I'll feel the power.
But you won't,*
No you won't.

** Cause I can't make you love me,
If you don't. **

sigh

i love princeton, too :)

but it sucks knowing that i did my app in such a hurry that my original one is not half as good as the latter apps i sent out.. hope my new edited submissions will make it look a bit nicer.

Ahh, so beautiful, enco. Where did you get the clips of past valedictory/salutatory addresses? I'd definitely like to see those.

that latin couplet doesnt make much sense to me

Let us live, my princeton, and let us love
and rumors of stricter old men.

First off, i dont think rumores should have that connective on it, it doesnt seem to make much sense, what is it linking?

Also, stricter old men...the professors? I dont know, seems wierd

I guess rumores could be read as shouting, or with less negative connotations, so more like reputation instead of rumor.

Overall though, doesnt make much sense to me.

"nunc morere"

well its beautiful and very intellectual to those of us that cant read latin =P

ur missing out

nunc morere is roughly translated as never die

I never took latin but I took spanish which is related

nunca morir means never die in spanish

nunc morere means "now die!"

It's what Pyrrhus (Achilles's son) says to Priam before Pyrrhus slits Priam's throat.

Romance language cognates can be useful, but as shown, you can't always trust them.

whoops, I guess I had a pyrrhic victory there... ok not really

princetonwannabe: can u edit ur submitted materials?

Everytime I look at other colleges on my list, there is always something or another that turns me off. Be it the ranking/prestige of that particular department, the location, the general feel, etc, there is always something.

Except Princeton. Sure, it's not perfect- there are still some concerns I have, but they are minor. Princeton has everything I want, everything I need. I love the school. I really do. However, I have decided to be detached from the decisions. If it is meant to be, I will get in. If not, then I won't get in. Oh well, just 2 more weeks.

Princeton is still my absolute top choice. I'll probably be rejected, but maybe they'll open up to transfers at some point in the next couple of years. Even if it doesn't work out with them, there are a couple of other greats schools that I might get into, so things might turn out OK.

I'm in love with their financial aid program. If I get in, I can go.

Pyrrhus,

Vivamus, mea Princeton, atque amemus

it comes from a famous Catullus poem (Vivamus, mea Lesbia, atque amemus/rumoresque senum severiorum) I just didn't feel like finishing the poem :)

Dang. Now I've gotta learn Latin too. Geez.

"gotta learn latin too..geez?"
you should be saying,

"yay! now i have to learn latin too!"

guys...i applied for financial aid today...heheh
