I'm in Wharton... ask away

I’m a guy freshman…just ran across this whole messageboard out of boredom… thought I’d register and post

Here’s what I’ve found about Penn/Wharton in general after one semester:

the good:

-the food carts are awesome
-some of the people here are amazingly fun to talk to
-the campus is very campusy, yet I can go downtown
-the proffesors are alll really intense (especially in Wharton)
-Wharton means I can talk to anyone I want in the world (pretty much) and have them respond
-the girls are promiscuous and most of the guys here have no game… awesome combination

the bad:
-the dining here is TERRIBLE

-Penn is super beaurocratic

-a lot of the professors are very impersonal

-the MATH DEPARTMENT BLOWS AT PENN

-MGMT100 is probably the most ******** class I’ve ever taken in my life

-so many Wharton kids are just, well, dumb… (the dual degree kids are all really smart here )…
so many athletes who all have “study halls” to make sure they get their homework done because they got in with low SATs…
so many kids with SUPER HIGH GPAs in high school who just work super hard and aren’t particularly intelligent

-Wharton kills any entrepreneurial spirit you may have had and gears you to work for someone else for a long time for many hours
-a lot of people here just make me go ***, how did you get in here??
-a lot of kids here seem pretty mediocre

-self-segragated campus: blacks hang out with pretty much blacks, asians with asians, and whites with whites

-sleep is not something you do here

so ask away :)

What do you mean with "the math department blows"?

most of the TAs have problems with English
and the profs are just not that good (if they speak English)

it's ok, the book is really easy to learn from

aPolla, wish me luck today, as I get my decision! :)

How are the kids in SAS, and is premed incredibly competitve like it is at other colleges?

no sleep? lol that sucks...I didn't think it would be that intense. Is it a huge workload?

"self-segragated campus" huh?
Can you elaborate more about that...? So pretty much... theres not much of a chance for any inter-racial relationships (romance or friendship) whatsoever? Are there any at all... :S?

SAS kids are chill, a lot of them are clueless about the real world, but they're still cool

i don't know about premed, Im in Wharton

the workload is intense if you take hard classes and work hard

dragon -- there's definately opportunities for inter-racial things... I'm white and two of my really good friends are of different races.... just the communities are very tight knit culturally -- I mean its expected cuz people like to hang out with their own type of people.... its not like the South or anytin, but I think stuff like DuBois sucks where it's only black kids

Could you post your stats from when you applied? Like SAT's, GPA, etc. I don't want to wait four hours...

-The Stat-Loving Coot66

i doubt a lot of the things you say even though you go to Penn. I don't know about wharton, my brother is at SAS. And he's definitely not clueless abou the real world...he's working for Goldman next year. But the racial integration theory i hear iis completely different. He says a lot of groups collaborate with each other and Penn received an "A" for diversity, didn't it?

Also, don't act as though the math issue is simply a Penn thing. My calc teacher told us that the majority of us won't get English speaking teachers next year regardless of where they go. And it's true...my friend who's a freshmen at Notre Dame says the math dept is run by non-english speaking TAs.

c00t66 --- 1560 SAT, 3.97 GPA unweighted, ECs like whoa

rohan -- of the college kids I've met, a lot are really just book smart and not life smart... congrats to your brother on Goldman, but where you work doesn't make who you are or how capable you are... that being said, Goldman is of course an impressive accomplishment for someone from the college, so he must have some idea of what he's doin

I don't care what Penn received for diversity.... I'm tellin ya my experiences

professors at Penn should be able to speak english

"1560 SAT, 3.97 GPA unweighted, ECs like whoa"
"a lot are really just book smart and not life smart"

Those two statements killed my hopes of admission.

-The Dead Coot66

lol coot you don't need scores like that to get in, but they don't hurt :D

The person who posted this thread is a moron

JCoveney has spoken.

Maybe not a complete and total moron but he has blown his opinions way out of proportion

Yeah he's off base

with what to you disagree with specifically guys? do you go to Penn? (I'm guessing you do or you wouldn't post like this)

well considering both of their locations say "University of Pennsylvania", I'd say that's a pretty good guess!

legend and I are sophomore's. He's in Wharton, and I'm in Wharton and Engineering.
