I'm in!!

I live a half hour away and know tons of kids who go to CU Boulder. Yes, you do hear of lots of kids who party a lot, but most kids that I know don’t seem to party any more than most other college kids I know (including my own daughter who goes to a pricey East Coast school!) I hear fabulous things about the professors and classes that are plenty difficult. And of course it is an amazingly beautiful school and Colorado has great weather. My own son may end up there, but he is hesitant ONLY because it is right in our backyard, and so many of his high school ends up at CU. I think like anywhere else, the partying is there if you are looking for it.

My son was accepted yesterday. He applied 11/11 I think, and heard by email that he was accepted. A nice relief! I was worried we’d have to wait a month or more. Now the dilemma is whether to wait to hear from other schools before committing. I want him to get into a good dorm, and he’s most likely going to go to CU; but what if a stretch school accepts him? Sigh. 3.8 GPA (weighted), 32 ACT, not a ton of extracurriculars, engineering.

Eh applied early to the college of engineering and applied science and they asked to see my first semester senior grades, 3.5 gpa, 30 ACT, 1900 SAT

Has anyone heard of their decision recently? My S is still waiting :-(

SOMOTU,

My son applied regular decision–(he applied in mid-December)–and UC just received the last of his required documents (standardized test scores) this week. Today, UC sent me the following email, which mentions how to check the application status online (to see if any required documents are missing, etc.) and also mentions that those who applied early decision, like your son, can expect to hear something no later than February 1. Here’s the text of the email.

"Now that your student has submitted an application, it is important for them to stay up-to-date with its progress so they may be notified of their admission decision.*

  1. Activate/Log in to MyCUBoulder. Whether they applied using the Common Application or the CU-Boulder application, the only way to check the status of their application is through their MyCUBoulder account. MyCUBoulder enables your student to know what required credentials we have and have not received. It can take up to 4 business days after your student submits their application for MyCUBoulder to be updated. If they are having trouble accessing their MyCUBoulder account, please have them view the MyCUBoulder Help Page.
  2. Submit all required information and credentials by the deadline. Missing credentials will delay application processing and could affect your student’s chances for admission. Students who submit a required credential electronically should give our office at least 2 weeks to receive, process and update a checklist. If a required credential is submitted by mail, please give us at least 4 weeks to receive, process and update the checklist.
  3. Pay attention to e-mail. Make sure your student adds mycuboulder@colorado.edu and apply@colorado.edu to their e-mail contacts because all communication regarding their application will come through e-mail and through checking their MyCUBoulder account.
We look forward to reviewing your student’s application and considering them for admission. Students who complete their application by the November 15 early action deadline will receive notification of their decision by February 1. Students who complete their application by the January 15 application deadline will receive notification of their decision by April 1. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us at 303-492-6301 or at apply@colorado.edu.

Yakker - Yes the Feb 1st (EA) and April 1st (RD) are the outside dates by which kids will receive notification. However, CU Boulder processes applications on a first-in first-out basis and releases decisions daily. By now there should have been numerous EA applicants that have received their decision. It strikes me as odd that no one has posted any feedback for about a month now. Presumably the admissions folks took the holidays off and came back to a huge pile of applications. Hopefully, we’ll start hearing something in the coming days . . .

How do they notify you? Email notification to check MyCUBoulder? Regular mail? or do you just keep logging in to check?

The email we received said all communications about the application will come through email and through the MyUCBoulder account, so we’ve been checking online–although I suspect some form of notification will eventually arrive by regular mail as has been true with all of the other schools to which son has applied. Like SOMOTU, we are assuming that, with the holidays, they are a bit behind, so we have stopped checking as much – realizing that it could be as late as April 1 before we hear anything. (He applied RD.)

My son got accepted this week. He is excited. Does he need a car in first year? We heard from other parents not letting their children to have the car in Freshman year. I thought it would be good for him to be able to explore more. Any wisdom on this for Boulder?

super1245 - Congrats! What date did your S submit his application?

Accepted into the Leeds Business School. Does anyone on here have kids/know people who have gone through this program and has something to say about it? I’m still trying to figure this whole thing out.

Hey guys! I got in about two weeks ago, congrats to all who were accepted as well!

My S2 was accepted, 2120 sat 3.6 gpa unweighted 4+ weighted. Very pleased! I don’t know if S1 has been accepted yet, because he is out of town on one of his ECs.

did anyone receive a sweatshirt? I got in a while back and suddenly received a sweatshirt from the college of engineering and applied sciences which was super cool and nice of them, I didn’t even know colleges did that! Just wondering about others.

Accepted out of state into the pre-engineering program with a
3.0 unweighted
30 ACT
SAT-not sent
no class rank
Varsity Sport
3 jobs that lasted over a year each 20-30hrs/wk avg
Good Letters of Rec

My son applied EA in October. He got a letter in November saying they wanted his 7th semester grades. He sent them Feb 14; no word yet. His stats were not as strong as the people who were admitted. But he’s still hopeful.

Son accepted RD today. ChemE & BioE. 4.0 unweighted; 34 ACT; National Merit Finalist; 11 APs; 22/604 rank; quality ECs. Good luck to those who are still waiting.

Well we were in and now we are out; after getting the Financial Aid Award Letter we’ve decided that my daughter didn’t get near enough in grants, scholarships, etc… we’d be financing around $40k a year and that just isn’t going to happen. Luckily she did get accepted to five other schools but it is still disappointing. We are OOS but we were still hoping for more in grants and scholarships to help offset the difference is cost.
