Other thoughts: Good luck everyone!

i got waitlisted w/ a 2090 SAT, a 3.7 GPA, great EC's, good essays, and what i thought was a really good interview with an admissions office member. I'm not sure if it was really difficult to get in this year or i just didnt cut it.

My son was waitlisted, too.

@bananaphone: I guess I'm so lucky. My SAT and GPA are waaaaaaaaay worse than yours; I didn't even have an interview. Maybe it was all about my essays. Perhaps they brought me in.

Decision: Waitlisted.

Stats:

GPA weighted: N/A

GPA unweighted: 3.7_

Other Factors:

General Comments/Congratulations/etc: I am shocked...I get into Bowdoin, Claremont McKenna and Colby but waitlisted here?

any intl student got in yet ???

I am intl. and I heard nothing from Bates so far...

same here..

i am an int student from turkey and heard nothing...

i haven't either....

rejected -_- screw bates
im going to bowdoin~~

it's actually pretty common to get into bowdoin/colby and not bates. bates has sort of an alternative admissions process. bowdoin is awesome though, many people prefer it over bates anyway.

i'm intl and got accepted by e-mail from Bates on 03/23

Accepted....Not me, a friend. This is the first reply he's gotten from 13 schools applied to (9 elite LACs & 3 Ivies). Bates has the earliest decision time for transfers.

Decision: ACCEPTED!!! (received Priority Mail today, Saturday...no email notification)

Non-Traditional TRANSFER applicant - Community College student

SAT: NOT sent to Bates, not required.
SAT IIs: not taken
College GPA: 3.97, Strong Honors curriculum
HS GPA: very low

Other stats:
Subjective:
Essays: Personal was pretty good - tells a personal story (see hook below). Why Bates? essay was very businesslike about educational goals.
Teacher Rec: Probably very good from 3 PhD college profs, 2 are profs at elite LACs (didn't read)
Counselor Rec: Another PhD prof & curriculum chair. Probably very good. (didn't read)
Interview: Didn't have one.
Hook (if any): Several. High achievement later in life (starting in late 20s at work and early 30s in college) after coming from family/religious background that said no to education. Success at a very challenging Vassar summer program. Diversity on several levels. First generation college student.

Location/Person:
State or Country: Northeast US
School Type: public
Ethnicity: Multi: African-American/White/Am. Indian
Gender: M

Other Factors:
Extracurriculars: Leadership in school organizations, mostly academic-related. Several Honors & Academic awards. A page full of stuff, mostly academic. No sports. No arts.
Why I think he was accepted: Demonstrated consistent success in college despite background that explicitly rejected higher education. A good story, pretty well told, and completely relevant to many educators' missions.

Other thoughts: Very exciting indeed. Good luck everyone!

Waitlisted. I thought I'd get rejected so it was a pleasant surprise, actually :)

According to Bates College Pr0wler http://books.google.com/books?vid=ISBN1596580089&id=7NQQecwRExoC&pg=PA1&lpg=PA1&ots=WvsrFb4DNH&dq=bates+college+*******&sig=LsmVmDISydmWlkCHGXzhHVEU7DM#PPA2,M1

Bates placed 800 on wait list and accepted 300 of those

300 is a missprint. it is not even near that

that is a very old version of the book (of which i own the newest copy) and it has other misprints such as 0 accepting place off waitlist which is also untrue

are there any int'l who got his/her rejection by e-mail ?

not me.. i'm 99% sure i'm rejected though
