im jewish.

ive heard that being jewish can help you out with admissions. IS THIS TRUE? after all, i am a minority...

No, I wish it did. We are actually a URM in college admissions, but URM in the country.

Might help at Notre Dame!

wait what is URM?

URM=Under Represented Minority - Meaning that a minority who is already well-represented in the particular college wouldn't be as sought after as a minority who isn't well-represented.

back in the day being jewish was a definite disadvantage. at least at the pretentious (damn selective) schools.

one year yale prided itself on having a graduating class of everyone above 6 feet.

times have changed, jews are on par with everyone else. and plus jewish parents are cool. i love the triangle cookies baby!

Jews, like Asians, are high achievers and are ORMs at top colleges. Could be an advantage in the deep South though.

No it should not help, but it does. A lot of the admissions and high ranking government positions in this country are controlled by jews.

Oh, and Sai, No, it isnt an advantage for us.

i love being a jew

I hear Vanderbildt is giving Jews preference these days...

Wouldnt help me...

yea, Jews are ORMs, this is not good for admissions

wOOt go jews :-D

It's possible that we have an advantage at some southern schools such as vanderbilt. Personally, that advantage isn't worth going some place where there aren't going to be any other jews.

this is why i got a 250 on my SAT II in hebrew.

nah i took my native language, latin!

I didnt. I would fail miserably. It's so hard to become fluent without immersion. I'm sure you do better and know more hebrew than I do, so go for it.

Haha thanks. I understand a lot of it, I just cant speak it particularly well. I read fine too. You seem pretty fluent to me.

how about being israeli, not just jewish-will that help?

Jews make up like 1-2% of the countries population and according to the hillel website all of the ivies and most other top schools (even georgetown) are more then 10% jewish, with some such as the university of pennsylvania about 30% Jewish. So yea diffinetely wont help you. Being Jewish would only hurt you at Bob Jones University, sorry if that ruins your dreams.

That's because alot of the jews from my school go to UPenn :P
