So i'm a current junior in high school and i've been looking into colleges lately, only to freak me out! I'm nervous because i want to get into a good school (I'm looking at George Mason, Washington State, McGill and University of British Columbia) but i'm just now learning that my application is not going to look impressive at all. My ECs are really lacking, all i've done is nanny(which takes up about 25 hrs a wk) and a little bit of volunteer work. Also, I am a straight A student (with 1 B each year), but i'm not in extremely challenging classes. All honors 9th and 10th grade, 1 AP 10th grade(with a 3 on my exam)...I'm planning on taking a couple AP classes next year and hopefully enrolling part time in my community college, but im worried! Im working really hard and realistically i think i can get a 32 on my ACT, but what are my chances of actually getting accepted into a school with a 50-80% acceptance rate?

GMU: Safety
WSU: Safety
UBC: Low match

As far as McGill is concerned, major please…

Can you post your actual GPA, class rank, and any practice scores you have?

I have a 3.9 GPA, I’m in the top 30% of my class, and on most practice tests I’ve gotten about a 30! As far as a major, I’m not sure yet but Psychology has been my main choice for a while!

*3.9 weighted, 3.7 unweighted!

McGill: Low match (I hope you can afford $31k yearly just in tuition or else you may scratch the school off your list)

yea well compared to alot of schools in the US, 31k is pretty good! thanks so much!

The Canadian schools don’t care about ECs. It’s all about grades, test scores and rigor.
Minimum requirements for admission (not guaranteed, just minimum to be considered) at this link. You see you either need SAT AND ACT, or then SAT and a couple of SAT subject tests.

The truth is that, once past the minimum, a given non-holistic Canadian school is almost a safety…

UBC does care (admittedly little) about ECs, though.
