So I’m currently a junior in hs with a 3.5ish UW GPA. What are my chances at NYU Tisch? USC SCA? What are the best ways to make up for a lackluster GPA? I did really good my first 2 years in hs but I hit a wall this year because of my course load so rip. I got into a pretty competitive academic program for my senior year so does stuff like that look good? I also am thinking about taking some courses over the summer at a community college to try to get some better grades on my transcript but is it really worth it? Basically, how can I get into a good school with not super competitive grades?
There are plenty of good schools that aren’t nearly as competitive as NYU!
I say you broaden your search instead of worrying about your GPA.
You can apply, but that is tough to overcome for those 2 schools.
Ithaca has a great film school, and you can get in with that GPA pretty easily as long as your SAT/ACT is respectable . If your SAT is high enough, and your portfolio good enough, maybe Emerson.
My S2 had 3.4 and a low 1300s and a great portfolio and got into both. He got $14k at Ithaca if that helps.
If you are in NY, look at SUNY Purchase.
I would really like to be in a city for college (NYC, Boston, LA, etc.) any recommendations? Thank you!
I am actually considering Emerson but I would love to live in NYC. I have considered Ithaca but for a few reasons decided it is not for me. What did his portfolio look like? Thank you for your help!
Also, what would you say is a good/competitive GPA for NYU?
About how competitive is the TISCH program for the film program? If I write a hella good essay would that help?
I rent out a house to some tenants who are film school majors at San Francisco State. Don’t know how good the film school is, but I heard it was well known. The school itself should be easy enough to get into, and well, every loves San Francisco even with all the millenials living there now driving up housing costs.
‘Tisch is very competitive. My S did not apply bc we live here and he wanted to go away from here. Not sure he would have had a chance.
His portfolio has one short film (self portrait/who I am), one comedy film of about 2 minutes and a 6 minute documentary about a fellow HS filmmaker. His editing is fairly high quality. His strength. He also has a unique point of view.
Where does he go now? How does he like it?
