I'm just wondering.

How important is race in a college enviroment? I'm Dominican&African American, I feel comfortable around anyone. I don't have to be among other hispanics or African Americans to feel like I belong somewhere. Summer of 06 I worked at a summer camp where I was the only African American, and rarely through the entire summer we had a total of seven African American campers. Is it wrong not to feel threaten? or am I just the only of a few that don't really care? I see alot of people put race into the school they are interested in. Why is that?

Though I'm only a junior, it does make a tiny difference. Colleges and Universities like diversity and that can..kind of give you an edge depending on what college you apply to and the settings. Make any sense or am I talking in squares? ^_^

Lol yeah, But sometimes I just wonder why some people ask so many questions about a single race not about diversity period. I know colleges like diversity and I do too but im not going to single out one race and ask if theres alot of "blah-blah people" you know?

I guess it's probably an individual thing - some people want to know that there are others from a similar culture, for whatever reason. I'm white, and I definitely want to go to a diverse school (I'm a minority at my current school), but I know I want at least a small Jewish population so that I have people to observe holidays with, etc. I don't think it would be a deciding factor for me in picking a college, though.

I think it's really all about people and their comfort levels.

Yeah, The college I got a acceptance letter from today, they have no diversity. I heard it from alot of different students and sometimes I dont feel comfortable applying to school like that because it makes me feel like a token. Sometimes I dont but a race at all because If i get denied I get denied and not accepted for the color of my skin or where my family came from.
