Yes, compare the campuses!

I still would take the CA campuses. I think you missed what I was originally implying, which was that the sun/feel/lifestyle and location of a California college would make up for any shortcomings on the actual campus.

I would rather be basking in the sun on a mediocre campus than trudging through the cold and wind to classes in december on a better looking campus in the NE.

haha so back to what schools work for me...
enough of the west coast vs east coast

So, of the ones we've suggested, which ones have appealed to you? That would help us see what kind of schools to suggest, for every school we've mentioned their are atleast another 3-4 schools that overlap.

connecticut college fits all of your criteria.

BTW, I'm looking at Pomona now, and it's definitely my 1st choice. Have you visited? I loved it. I seriously wish I'd already graduated, and were going there in two weeks. It's got a lot of nice grassy quads like you said (I'm a frisbee fan, so it's a BIG plus for me, hehe), and the dining room with the mural is gorgeous, kind of looks like they were trying to model it after Oxford or something. The student body's supposed to be great, people say they're like ducks: calm and laid-back on top, but paddling like mad underneath. They're intelligent, but not competitive. (At least I hope that's true) My criteria for college searching is exactly the same as yours, so I'm interested to see what people suggest for you.

I might also suggest Oberlin

If you can take the cold weather, Carleton fits your criteria. If you like Duke, you might like Davidson.

I have lived in so-called Sunny Southern California my whole life and let me tell you when you say "basking in the sun", sometimes you are rather BAKING. the weather here changes frequently. This past year we had the most rain we have had in decades... and for months at a time. This summer has been relatively colder than usual... colder as in low 90s. Yes, especially in the valleys, we reach well over 100. I just thought I would share all that. But don't fret, the weather is still absolutely wonderful and the Southern Cali area has great proximity to some of the best places... from the beaches to Disneyland and Hollywood.. it's all just a short drive away!

i'm a native texan. i can stand the heat.

and of the ones yall have suggested, i like:
Pomona
Tufts
Duke
Amherst
Macalester
Claremont mckenna
Haverford
Georgetown
Carleton
Davidson
..soo i guess schools like that. and do you think swarthmore meets my criteria/ sounds like a good fit?
thanks for all the help!

UNC Chapel Hill...
-Beautiful campus
-Incredibly active and diverse student body
-Great Honors Program (with super small classes)
-Lower costs than most other schools

You should DEFINITELY look into it if you haven't. There are plenty of totally preppy fake blondes, but also plenty of amazing, intellectual, laid back people. The student body is big enough that you're guaranteed to find plenty of people you like. There's tons of student activism but it's in no way overwhelming. There's lots of funding for independent research and organizations. Their study abroad program is also stellar. From what you've said I think it would definitely be a good fit.

soo swarthmore. you guys like? think it matches? describe PLEASE

Look at Macalester.

My bro is at CMC and loves it. Duke sounds like a great fit too, and it can't hurt applying. And you stay classy shoegal2
