Ok so right now I'm sitting in the building of where my class is, and my class is going on right now. Why am I sitting here? Well, My class is from 12:30-3:30, and it is now 1:30 so I am an hour late. To top it all off, this is the 4th class this semester and I've missed the first three...I'm having a really tough time in school and I didnt miss class just to skip it. I'm way too embarrassed to walk into class this late after not even showing up for the first three classes. Plus the class is like 25 people and I have to walk through the front of the room to sit down. What should I do please help.

Also, Im pretty sure for the 3 hour classes they take a break halfway thru so should i wait for that?

Just go in. Better to show up late than not show up at all. JUST GO IN

You need to get your priorities straight. There is absolutely no excuse for missing the first 3 (4 now?) classes.

I haven’t been to a class for 3 weeks, just work from the textbook and it’ll be all good. Just chill.

At my school the professors drop you if you miss the first day of class.

^ Geeze, sounds like they are running a concentration camp. There is no attendance policy at my university, you can never go to a lecture in a semester and all will be well.

I’m not in college anymore, but your first post is actually a recurring nightmare for me, only the whole semester has passed, and I haven’t gone to class. Wake up! Go to class!

I have actually done this a few times. I would wait till the class break and go and talk to the prof. If he is cool then he will tell you not to worry about it and just go take a seat. If he is an ass he will tell you to go drop the class. Either way there is really nothing much you can do.

I too hate walking into a class late, i have done the exact same thing that you are doing. Remember though that you paid to be there just like everyone else and they are far more focused on texting and what they will do after class then you. It will be cool, dont sweat it and just try to make it to class for the rest of the semester.

^What makes you say that? And a professor who drops a student for not showing up four times to a conference style class is not being an ass; that comes off as pretty disrespectful to he professor.

I do not hold professors on a pedestal, they are paid for a service and that service is to teach. Just as you can choose to pay for a movie and walk in when it has already started, I believe that you should be able to attend class when you feel like it. I however do not believe that the professor should have to give make up work or reteach lessons that I missed however.

That’s showing them a bit of respect as a human being, not putting them on a pedestal, but okay.

At my school, professors can start taking a penalty from your grade if you miss more than 10% of classes, so that works out to roughly be about three classes.

Just go to class. People walk in late all of the time. Better late than never.

Go to class. Even late. Go to the prof’s office hours as soon as you can, appologize, tell him you know you screwed up, and want to appologize for being inconsiderate. That you are working on getting back on track, and appreciate his understaning. Then show him you mean it by going to class and doing the work.

I’m surprised you haven’t been dropped. At my school, many professors will drop you if you miss the first three classes since they figure you forgot about the class and don’t want you to pay for it.

Certain clases at my college drop you for missing the first day also. If someone on the wait list shows up over you, he/she deserves the class more than you do.

I thought you were pregnant when I saw the title of the post.

This happened to me a week ago. I was substantially late for a class so I didn’t go in because I didn’t want to be THAT guy. I really don’t like when people walk in late, but that is just me. Missing/skipping classes is a really bad habit in college, you get more independence than in high school and it can get a little out of hand. Make sure you start going because often times info is given in lectures that is not in the text.

Walk into class, even if you’re late. You’re just going to fall even more behind if you’re too nervous to go into class.
