I'm looking for a list of largest endowments!

I have Bruce Hammond’s list in his excellent book, “Discounts and Deals at the Nation’s Top 360 Schools”, but this list is now about 8 years old. Can anyone lead me to a more current list? There is a great correlation between endowment per student and quality education, in my opinion.

Thanks in advance

1 - Harvard 23-24 billion
2 - Yale 13-14 billion
3 - Princeton 9-11 billion

Dunno the others.

I know the top three and you can put Stanford right up there, tied for 3rd if my memory is correct, but I'm wondering if someone can attach a link with many more schools.

Thanks

recent article, lists top 47 endowments

http://www.detnews.com/2005/schools/0505/22/A04-189385.htm

That's a great link - I like how it shows the geographic distribution of rank and money. This is a little more outdated (2003), but it shows the UC's individually (and is somewhat more correct in doing so as although they're all technically part of the same system, they manage their endowments independently):

Thanks college2332 and themegastud, I can really use this information with families.

Much appreciated. This website can be an incredible source of information!

It's more accurate if you divide the total endowment by the enrolled students - a "per capita" endowment, if you will. I believe Princeton comes out on top if you do it that way.

I agree, what I like about Hammond is that he lists an, "endowment per student". Does anyone have a more recent link or article that lists endowment per student? I can take the recent endowments and divide them by the students, but I'd love to have a list all by itself.

Thanks

Wow. I had no idea that the University of Michigan had that large of an endowment. I knew that we had lots of money on our hands, but that information blew my mind.

admissionsrep - I'm going to look around on the Internet for a few minutes and see what I can find for you.

Not always accurate. Some schools have separate independent foundations to avoid state laws on fundraising disclosure, investments and the like. Wisconsin has two outside foundations--The UW Alumni Foundation and the Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation. They hold assets of $3.4 Billion or so. The official UW controlled endowment is around $400 million bringing the total to about $3.8 Billion that are held for the benefit of UW Madison.

On this site, there is a link to the "Largest Endowments Per Student" under "Resources." However, since I don't have a username and password for the Cronicle of Higher Education, I can't get to the exact information that's needed.

I'm sorry that I couldn't find more relevant information. All of the other sites that I saw only promoted one school (a.k.a. "we have one of the largest endowments in the nation") and didn't list all of the top schools' numbers.

The Cleveland PD printed it a couple of Sundays ago - its not on their website but maybe they could send you a copy.
