I'm nervous...

I've heard a lot of negative things about the eating clubs especially concerning minorities (they're always excluded from the "elite" clubs) and death.... 0.o. I don't know if I want to join one or not but I don't want it to ruin my Princeton experience. Anyone else have any opinions on this issue?

Er. Try a search. There've been quite a few helpful threads recently. ;)

Ok. Thank you.

There is also a series about the issue in the Daily Princetonian.

Search at <a href="http://www.dailyprincetonian.com%5B/url%5D">www.dailyprincetonian.com</a></p>

Hm... I suppose only Ivy and perhaps Cottage can be considered "elite." Most people join the clubs that their friends are joining, or where their upperclassman friends are. So... if you have upperclassman friends in a certain club, logically you wouldn't be "excluded." Or, for instance, Tower is known as having lots of Daily Princetonian staffers. If you work on the Prince and have lots of friends there, you migth end up at Tower. It has a lot to do with what part of the student body you associate most with.

I suppose that's what all of the social jockeying is all about, if you're into that sort of thing. (Which friends to make to get where, etc. etc.) But whatever the case, you'll probably be happy wherever you are because you'll be with your friends. :)

ivy has a reputation for being elitist, but they do have plenty of minorities, and last year at least one of the officers was black. cottage does deserve its elitist reputation a bit more - there are hardly any minorities at all.

eating clubs are nothing to worry about - you will never not be able to have fun on the street, whether its at a bicker club on pass or just hanging out at a signin club.

Wow. That is incredibly lame of you.

Thanks for the assurance you guys (except for that whole cottage thing, lol). :D

why is that lame of me?

don't get me wrong, i love cottage and spend a lot of time there, but it is a fair point that in the whole club there are about 3 black people. maybe they just don't bicker there?

it sounded like you meant a club could only be elitist if there were few minorities, which is really demeaning.
