I'm a Canadian and I've always wanted to graduate from a Canadian university (especially with brutal fees in the US for international students). But, I don't see any Canadian schools as "target schools" for the US iBanking firms. What should I do? Should I change my option into something like accounting?

Ivey is the closest thing Canada has to a target for top banks. I’d say it’s better than semi-targets in the US, but not as good as targets.

Is accounting something you want to do? If not, why switch to it…

If you are not a US citizen it would be hard to get an American bank to hire you to work in the US at this point in time. I’m sure Bay Street has it’s own target list.

A lot of kids from McGill WERE ending up at places like Credit Suisse, DB, and of course the Canadian big 5 banks (CIBC, RBC, BOM,TD,BNS). A lot of MDs at these banks have their undergrad at McGill. Placement in London actually was decent until this last year, as the London trip was usually a bigger deal than the NY trip. Placement to the U.S. BBs has always been pretty poor…only math geniuses get recruited as quants, and of course kids with insane family connections make it into an analyst class now and then.

This year hardly anyone is getting offers. And Ivey is the closet thing to a target in Canada…it’s the only place where BBs have more than just informational sessions.
Also, I assume compensation in Canadian Banks is not very good as you move up. Analyst salaries are the same, but deals are just really small here.

As far as targets for Bay Street, Queens commerce, Ivey, and Schulich are the best, but your school really doesn’t matter nearly as much in Canada. It’s more your major plus GPA.
