As I'm trying to write these college app essays, I find that I'm just not as interesting an applicant as I'd like to be! Anyone else dealing with similar woes? How do I get over it?

Everyone has his/her stories. Don’t sell yourself short. Find your passion and drill on it. Add a little humor here and there. Show your human side. But also show us your intellectual side. Tell us what you feel and why you do certain things. Tell us why you want to go to college. Write, and keep writing and rewriting. And have a few people edit the essay.

Good luck! PM me if you want me to proofread it.

Thank you so much! I was having a bit of a discouraged moment. I’ll try my best and I may just take you up on your offer of proofreading my essay!

I feel the same! I feel that I have no sob-story or cool, unique lifestyle! I’ve really done nothing special with my life! Though my transcript shows I’m a well rounded student, my essay just wouldn’t reflect that. :/

Write about something that changed your life, what you really are about. You don’t have to be interesting, it’ll come naturally. It can be one of the random-est things or whatnot.

when attending an info session at Tulane this past April, the adcom mentioned that the best, most interesting essay she had read in a long time was about cupcakes! Now, I’m not saying that you should write about cupcakes…I’m just saying that you don’t need to have some tragic sob story or earth shattering experience to write a good essay.

A DOA at an event I attended said her most recent favorite essays were about a kitchen table and body hair. You don’t have to have done big exciting things in your life to be an interesting person with a unique perspective.
