I'm not IVY material, SO WHERE SHOULD I APPLY???

My stats are likely too weak for Ivies, but which colleges would be good matches that still are prestigious? BASICALLY WHERE DO I APPLY....

Male Caucasian Minnesota

Small Private School

Unweighted GPA: 3.77 (School doesn't weigh)

Class Rank: 11 of 53? (is this a major concern?)

ACT: 32
Science: 35
Math: 33
English: 30
Reading: 31
SAT: 2060 (CR:660 M: 720 W: 680)

Intended Major: (Pre-Med) Any of these: Biology/biochemistry/chemistry

AP's: All 3 AP's offered at my school; US HIST:5, CHEM: 5, ENG LIT: ?

Senior Classes: Political Science, AP ENG LIT, Anatomy, Latin IV, College Calculus I & II, College Greek I & II, College Medical Terminology, High Performance (Gym)

EC’S

I tutored (Math/Science)
NHS

GREAT RECOMMENDATIONS

You may be Ivy material…up that SAT a bit (easier said than done). You only apply to college once, go for it.

Thanks for the prompt response! I fear there is no time to retake the SAT, that score is from my Sophomore year so I figured I would stick with my ACT, is the ACT not equally accepted?

I disagree with coders. Barring any special circumstances you haven’t told us about (being a URM, a recruited athlete, legacy, etc.), you’re not Ivy material. Your GPA/rank and test scores are all too low, and your ECs are sorely lacking (in comparison to the typical HYP applicant).

As far as other options, definitely stay in the top tier. I would look into Georgetown, Vanderbilt, and Northwestern for reaches.

As far as matches, idk.

Thank you for the input hookem, I was under the same impression that although my stats may say I’m qualified for applying to Ivies I lack any spontaneous points in my resume. Anymore recommendations on matching schools or schools beneath Ivies that may be good looks would be appreciated…

Are you first generation?

My parents didn’t go to college but my older brother is at a small private college so kinda?

BUMP BUMP BUMP (B2K Style)

Still need input>>>

apply to any school. maybe the ivies see something in you they dont see in anyone else. worth the shot

Thanks ruskie I love that philosophy but my wallet doesn’t so I’m trying to choose some high matches/low reaches/reaches
The IVY allure doesn’t really captivate me anyhow

BUMP
Application Fees are expensive, advice on which 3 out of these I should choose to apply to:
Johns Hopkins
Washington University
University of Chicago
Rice University
Boston University
Boston College
Georgetown

rice, boston college and georgetown in my opinion. i think you have great shots at these. (SAT score not withstanding)

Thanks Mesquite! I took that SAT sophomore year and only plan on submitting my ACT score to schools.
Do any of these schools require SAT II’s?
ANY MORE INPUT WOULD BE APPRECIATED!

i think rice requires math and another one, but idk for sure. check the websites for details.

Thanks for the prompt response, I look into it a little more
ANY MORE INPUT>>>>>>>

ok facts on Rice
RICE does NOT require SAT II’s if you took the ACT with Writing
RICE does NOT require SATII for Math.

THE END
send in your ACT scores bro

Thanks Iambored10, that’s good to hear cause I haven’t taken any subject tests. I think 32 on the ACT is good enough that it won’t hurt my attempt at most schools.
ANY MORE IDEAS ON WHICH SCHOOLS WOULD BE LOW REACHES OR WORTH APPLYING TO…

University of Virginia has a great medical program. I think you have a shot there:)

thanks ps. UVA is one direction I hadn’t really looked. I am aware that it is one of the top public schools, the great medical program is appealing, but do they provide a fair amount of financial aid? Where do I fall at UVA? above average?
