I'm not sure whether I want to be a doctor or not yet. I'm interested in Biomed Engineering,Neuroscience and Pre-Med. So which major should I choose such that I have other options that I can pursue if I later decide that medicine is not the choice for me? Anyways, How is UMN-Twin Cities and Penn State Univ for these majors? The National Rankings are not so conclusive since they give the overall image. Thanks in advance.

Since pre-med is generally not a major (though I believe PSU does have it), you'll need to pick one of the first two.

Even though PSU does have a specific "pre-med" major, I would strongly, strongly discourage you from choosing that. It's not a very good choice for anyone, and given your uncertainty, even worse in your particular situation. You'll be much better served by having a real major.

Don't worry about rankings within majors - especially if you're uncertain and likely to change your mind. Go where you'll be happiest.

I agree with BRM. Since you're not sure, definitely don't do pre-med major. Biomed engineering would probably serve you best outside of med school, but go with what you are most interested in.

Just to add to the conversation--this isn't conclusive at all, but it seems that if you really want to go to Hershey med school in PA, majoring in premedicine at PSU can (sort of) guarantee you a spot as long as you do well in your classes and get a good mcat score and don't screw up your interview. The rate of acceptance for those at PSU majoring in premed is ~75%, and just talking with other students, it seems like the vast majority of those students go to Hershey.

But, as far as the other 124 med schools are concerned, the above advice is spot on.

I think a general Bio major would be fine...until you decide, anyway.

That's interesting about Hershey Med School.
