I'm not sure how stupid this sound

How much of a factor does race play when applying to college? Let's say a person is in good academic standing, decent EC's, decent leadership roles...... and happens to be a minority applicant, will he or she be put at some sort of advantage or disadvantage because of this little thing called diversity?

I am aware that this is a factor but exactly HOW important is race?

Race is not important AT ALL. Minorities have no advantage or disadvantage. The only reason why colleges ask your race on applications is to know the statistics of the different races of prospective students.

Officially, it can’t hurt you, but it can help you if you’re black, a pacific islander, hispanic, or native american because colleges need the numbers. That said, since there is a cap on admissions, that ultimately hurts you if you’re considered white by the legal definition (including Middle Eastern and North African) or Asian. Also, if your asian, you have to work a little harder to not get clumped into the asian stereotype, since admission officers read a lot of their applications.

if you’re asian (that is chinese, indian, korean…) it will hurt your chances noticeably. If you’re black or hispanic, it will help your chances very significantly. It’s b/c asians are over-represented and blacks/hispanics are underrepresented in colleges.

Sorry to hijack your thread, but I have a quick question, I’m Pakistani, so am I Asian or white or what?

Middle East is “white” but Pakistan is Asian.
