I'm not sure what to do

Hi, I'm currently attending the University of California at Riverside and after being here for about 4 weeks I'm pretty miserable.
I come home every weekend and I'm just not happy. I know it's VERY early, but I'd like to at least have a plan if going here just doesn't work out.
I came into the school not planning on transferring, but I'm beginning to doubt a large state school is for me.
I just have a couple questions:
Should I drop out and go to community college to transfer? Everyone is saying it's much easier to transfer from a CC to another school.
Should I transfer out after a year? I'm part of the Trojan Transfer Program at USC, but USC is even larger than UCR. USC is MUCH closer to home and I can commute too. There's a couple other privates I know that'll take transfers after a year.
Or should I wait it out and transfer after sophomore year?
How was transferring for you?
I dreamed of being part of the UC system all of my life which is why I'm very hesitant to go to a private school. I got off the wait list for Chapman halfway through the summer, but I decided to stay with UCR.
My grades in high school weren't great (3.1 unweighted 3.6 weighted) and my ACT score was only a 29. However, my AP scores were pretty good (2 on econ; 3 in gov; 4 in lit; 5s in US, lang, and Euro). My essays, extra circulars, and letters of rec were strong.
So far my classes in college have been going well, but no GPA to report of yet.
Sorry this isn't very clearly written. I just sort of needed to vent?

If I were you I’d go to community college. Go to a community college, take online courses mixed with in-person courses to boost your gpa. Then after a year with a 3.5-4.0 gpa you will have loads of choices.

After getting more involved with the campus and exploring more, I’m still pretty set on transferring to a LAC.
It’s after midterms and so far I have three classes that are A/A- range and one class that’s a B-. I think at worst I should get a 3.53 unless things go horribly wrong. I’m aiming for a 3.6+.
I talked to my parents about going to a CC instead and they’re against it for this year at least.
I now have a clearer understanding of what I want from college and have an idea of where I’d like to go.
Does anyone have advice about UC to private transferring?

There are plenty of cases where people attending their schools are miserable a few weeks in, hell I was. What I’d recommend is (if you’re doing bad in school) to leave before the school year is over. (If you’re doing fine, complete the year and courses to get some GEs out of the way while you’re already there; hell, maybe it’ll grow on you and you won’t hate it as much by the end) I would go to your local CC back home, grind out 1-2 years of GEs and then transfer into your major at LAC (if that’s where you’re determined to go to). It really saves a lot of money to do GEs at a CCs then just focus on your major at the transfer school.

About UC to private transferring, UCs are very… limited(?) to transferring OUT of the UC system. Since UCs are such a closed system, they mainly support transfers within their own school system. I would definitely go speak with your counselor about these things. They’ll give you phony answers like “are you depressed? would you like to go see the school psychiatrist?” or some stuff like that. Just be straight to the point and ask him/her what your options are to transfer out of UCs and into a private. Best wishes and good luck!
