So I did very little research and i waited till the last minute to apply and take my SAT’s (Mistake #1 out of 4500). Thankfully i did ok on my SAT considering i only took it once; I got a 1350. I have a 4.0 and I’m in 9 clubs. I also have over 250 hours of volunteering including a medical mission trip to Jordan. I ended up applying to way too many schools around the country because i had no direction at all and I was running out of time. I basically had no idea what i was doing. I applied to Northwestern, Johns Hopkins, Upenn, Baylor, Texas Tech, Rice, UTD, USC, university of san Francisco (idk why), Penn state, Uconn, and miami university.
I got into Utd, Texas Tech, Miami, and uconn.
i got waitlisted at penn state, and university of san Francisco
i got rejected from johns hopkins and northwestern
havent heard from the rest yet and i still have no idea what to do.
Uconn offered me a lot of grants and scholarships so I’m considering it but is it worth it going so far (I’m in Dallas). Is it my best option? I’m planning on going the pre-med route. also I really like penn state and i was offered admission at one of their other campuses.
im a mess. I’m sorry if not making sense.
Some comments
- Wait until you get all of your decisions in before making a choice.
- Understanding that grad school is likely in your future, what can your family comfortably afford (no loans/no hardship?)
- Have you visited any of theses schools (or can you visit in the future)?
You should consider financial comforts for your family too. Keep in mind you applied to really hard schools which shouldn’t be a deterrent to your consciousness in terms of how capable you are. Clearly your scores are awesome and literally any university would take you. These schools all have an extremely low admission rate.
Personally, UTD could be a very good choice for you.
Wait, how did you eff up your future?
Did you kill someone? Deal drugs and got caught?
Nothing you’ve related seems like a screw-up so far.
I agree with purple titan. Don’t worry you’re obviously going to do fine wherever you go
Are you planning on majoring in drama?
He’s mad because he got rejected to northwestern and John Hopkins
What’s your parents ’ budget and what is the net cost for each university?
Look carefully at each financial aid offer and type in a message below for each university that admitted you
Total direct costs = $… (tuition, fees, room, board)
Total grants + scholarships = $ …
It’ll help us advise you.
I’m afraid you misread your UConn award: they rarely offer scholarships and pretend to meet by ‘offering’ parent plus loans. Which isn’t financial aid…
Do you want to leave Texas or stay in Texas (what’s your personal preference if the choice is available)
Please post the exact details of what UConn offered you. UConn isn’t known for offering merit or grants to OOS students.
How much will your parents pay each year?
No point in going to an expensive PSU campus.
@mom2collegekids UConn offered my daughter $15,000 in merit two years ago (OOS).
UConn:
total cost of tuition: $54,400
total grants: $23,920
UTD:
total cost of tuition: $27,550
total grants: $12,720
Miami university:
total cost: $48,212
total grants:$12,420
my parents keep saying not to worry about the money and to pick the school that i think is right for me they won’t tell me what their budget is or anything but of course i don’t want them to spend everything they have.
Wow, that’s a really good offer from UConn.
Do you have a vague idea of your parents’income? For instance, if they make ~ 90k you can afford UConn but I’d they make 40k, you can’t.
