I'm a 26 year old sophomore attending a local community college. I attended a state for one semester in '08, which was...disastrous. At the time, I was still trying to get a handle on my depression and drinking heavily. If my GPA for the semester was much north of 2.0, I'd be surprised (I still have non-loan debt from that semester). Among the fallout was an arrest for underage intoxication and resisting arrest.

I enrolled in the local CC this spring; 4.0 spring semester, 4.0 summer, and looks to be 4.0 again this semester. Call it 15 credits at about 2.0, 37 credits at 4.0. Err on the side of caution and call it 3.4 cumulative.

All that being said..where might I have a real shot at being admitted when I go to transfer?

Will a recent bankruptcy affect my chances? I can't get transcripts from the state school while I owe, and have no way to lay hands on 6k in a reasonable amount of time.

I don't have much in the way of softs. I can get decent LoRs, but my work experience is nothing impressive. I'm in the philosophy club, am about to try to start another club with a professor, and MIGHT have a congressional internship this spring at my rep's district office.

I'm hoping to target Vandy, Chapel Hill, and UVA (any of these would be amazing), but I feel these are almost certainly out. Where CAN I go? While I know they are more competitive, I'm really hoping to find a school with either a no-loan or reduced loan financial aid package, as I'm currently unemployed and my family can't afford to contribute.

Thanks in advance for any insight or advice that might be offered.

p.s.- I'm big on accountability and feel guilty for choosing to file bankruptcy, but have no other options (medical debt, on top of educational, unable to find employment that would earn enough to service the debt). My current plan is to make a donation in excess of what I owe to the school, plus interest, once I'm established. Probably pointless to have mentioned this, but...yeah. Anyways.

p.p.s- Sorry for the huge wall of text.
