I'm on academic probation!

I graduated from high school in 2008 at age 16 and started attending a small college in NY. I was majoring in Business Admin. About a year into the program my family and I found out that I was being treated for a condition I did not have. Tests were done, but since my physical and blood work showed no abnormalities, I was diagnosed with major depression. It was really a blood condition. I had been taking MAJOR dosages of medication for the depression and it really ruined things for me since I didn't have depression.

I had a severe break last September and took a leave of absence. I was put on probation for dropping below the completion rate due to all the issues I was facing.

I moved back to Miami a few months ago and began attending community college in May. The probationary period transferred over. I hope to transfer to a 4-yr college and major in Biomedical Engineering (possibly tissues and cells) with a premed track.

How would having been placed on probation effect my chances of getting into Columbia, Boston U or even FIU and UMiami?

My current GPA at my school is 4.0 and my cumulative GPA is a 3.35. I've taken four classes so far and can only take 9 credits in the fall due to my probation.

My HS GPA was 3.81
I was home schooled and designed my own rigorous independent study program.
ACT- 34
I volunteered for my stepdad's Medical Equipment company until they had to close down in 2007.
Worked at Kohl's back in 2008 as a temp.
I worked for a specialist's private office for over a year 09/10.

Explain it in an essay, also, I would talk to your current school counselor about having it removed due to your unique circumstances.

Thanks. I believe there’s a section in the Common app for this.
My counselor said that there was nothing he could do. I was able to get my financial aid appealed, but they won’t accept it for my probation.

Yes there is, it shouldnt be an issue, especially since you have a good GPA.
