I know a lot of people are probaly laughing but please tell me the truth i want to go to a really good college i really like college a lot more than H.S for some reason and i hope colleges can see that. Also if anyone has good matches for me other than listed please do.

bumpin for you

Toga. Congrats on your fine CC record so far.

So are you looking to transfer for fall of 08?

Have you applied to the above schools yet? Do you know when their deadlines are for transfer applications?

Do you know what you want to major in? What is your $$$ situation? Do you live in a state with a good public state college that you might also be looking at ?

We will need more info if we are to help you out. Did you know their are colleges that don’t require SAT’s.

have you looked at the websites for each school- they are probably different in their requirements and the emphasis on the SAT may be different

Look for a school that doesn’t worry so much about your old test and look more at what you have done now

Be proud of what you have done…

what city are you in?

You need a higher SAT score. Period. If you can study and get a 1600+, then you would be a better candidate for Villanova, George Washington and Miami University. Your other dream schools are impossible with a 1290. U-Chicago Georgetown and Northwestern you need a 2000, probably 2100+. With the scores you have you need to start looking at more schools like Arizona or Kansas State with 95% acceptance.

Possibly look in SAT-optional colleges. But either way, your CC record is great. Good luck!

I got all the deadlines for the schools and im from New York and im looking to transfer for the 08’ of fall semster …

I know i did bad in H.S this stinks i thought busting my butt in college would help my #1 schools is Villanova and george washington university is that one that far out of the reach and the dean of my school im really good friends with and he is an alumni from NYU that is why i thought it would help but THANKU so much for everything you guys have done for me so far these really gives me an eye opener

If you’re doing that well in college, I’m sure that you can open a review book and do a LOT better on the SATs. Frankly, you’re going to be quite disappointed if you apply to those schools with your current record because your SATs are going to drag everything else down. Heck, you could probably even find a fellow college student who did decently on the SATs to help you out.

Your current record in community college will certainly help you, but the schools that you mentioned are reaches for nearly everyone and you have to make up for a less than stellar high school career.

I think you need to look past the “name” schools and look at threads such as the one talking about good schools that no one has ever heard of. The smaller LACs have more of a holistic approach to admissions than some of the others.

Toga, a number of people have suggested looking at SAT optional schools and it really is a very good suggestion. There are a number of very good schools that don’t require the SAT. A few good ones are Holy Cross, Dickinson, Drew and Gettysburg. Good luck!

Also look at Goucher, Susquehanna, Juniata and Hartwick. They are all good solid schools that are SAT optional.

Your high school GPA is not the problem; GW takes plenty of transfers with 3.0-ish HS GPAs as long as your college GPA is strong. Your test score is the major problem, one a friendship with the dean can (probably) not fix.

I would suggest applying to similar schools with easier admissions policies – for example, Loyola of Chicago. Catholic University of America. Fordham University. Those are all good schools in the cities that you’re applying to anyway, and they will provide a solid education. If you do well there, you can always go to a “top” college like UChicago or whatever for grad school.
