i'm only 17...

i won't be turning 18 until January, but i would like to go clubbing sooner than that. now i realize that a lot of clubs are only 21+, but i'm sure there are some 18+ nights around the area. i was wondering how common it was to get a fake id on campus, or how strict clubs are in terms of age. i don't drink, so i don't want to go to clubs for the booze, i just love to dance.

anyone have any experience? i'm not sure i have the guts to get one, but i don't know much about the whole deal. i don't even know if i'll make friends with those who would enjoy clubbing, i'm just curious at this stage. would it just be better to wait four months?

thanks.

i'm 17 as well (18 late december) and i'm curious about that too, but i'll probably be waiting a while because i look about 14.

haha, funny you should mention that. i'm always told that i look 14, too (last summer at my job, one customer said i looked 11, so i consider 14 an upgrade). but the other day i wore a nice summer dress and was at the mall and was on a few occasions told i looked at least 18--they wanted to know if i had their credit card and i said i wasn't old enough. i guess it all depends on what i'm wearing and how i look on a certain day.

At NU there are pretty much only two clubs people go to: The Keg and The Deuce (aka The Mark II). I know that The Keg has 18+ nights (Mondays and Thursdays, I believe) but I think The Deuce is always 21+. To get into these clubs, you only need some sort of ID that says you are of age - it doesn't have to look like you at all. Lots of people have fakes and if they are good fakes they use them to buy alcohol. If you turn 18 in Janurary, I wouldn't get a fake that says you are 18 - it's a waste of money. If you ARE going to get one, get one that says you are 21. It hardly matters though. You can always find someone from whom you can borrow their ID or someone to buy you liquor if that's what you're after.

I'd bet that at a school like Northwestern there are plenty of people interested in dancing and stuff--start your own dance on campus.

david is right - there are many "dance parties" on or near campus, some at frat houses, others at private apartments. The Evanston bars/clubs are not known for their dance scences, so you actually might have better luck at finding dancing at on-campus parties.
