I'm out of state and I'm applying now...in December

Yeah, so...

I've always liked UF, the culture, the atmosphere/college town, pride, good academics, etc...
But I've always been scared of its steep out of state price tag and COa being $35k.

But, I decided to apply for NROTC and this would make UF possible financially. Getting a NROTC scholarship is not guaranteed, but I have been told that I have a pretty decent chance. I submitted my app already and I did not list UF as one of my top 5 schools because I thought the absolute deadline was 11/1. So all of this might not work out, even if I do get in, but it will help given the fact that UF is a public school, so tuition isn't $40k+, so hopefully transferring the scholarship will not be that hard (if I get a scholarship).

Now, I realize that my chances are not great to begin with as an OOS student, and applying late is going to hurt even more.

But I do have some sort of chance, right?

Here is a quick rundown of my stats:

4.2 W GPA, 3.8ish UW
1390/2110 SAT (790 USH SAT 2)
Worked 1/2 jobs throughout H.S., Eagle Scout, small role in Student Govt, Eucharistic Minister, grant writing, and a few other things.

So, I guess technically I am qualified, but OOS is such a crapshoot and applying in December certainly isn't going to help.

Worth spending the $30 to apply? I think so, not a whole lot lost if I do not get in.

take the 30 dollars, go buy some toys, donate them to a church for an Xmas drive.

much better use of the $$

Of course you should apply. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. It’s $30.

This. There is nothing to lose except $30.

LOL! OK, how about you do that, hun.

to the person above me: I already gave UF my 30 dollars and was accepted, thanks.

To everybody else: Be serious. Sure, he has nothing to lose but 30 dollars… but he won’t get in. If u apply after November 1st and are in state you probably won’t get in. Lets be realistic.

So pretty much, you applied take a less qualified, but more dedicated-to-service persons scholarship?

Hmm, that doesn’t seem right.

Don’t judge me.

I think you did not interpret what I wrote correctly or I was not as clear as I should have been.

It has been my plan to apply for ROTC all along, and I mainly wanted to do NROTC.

However, I was under the impression that you needed to complete a fitness test in order to be considered for a scholarship. But I learned that this was not the case for NROTC, true for all of the other branches though. I wanted to wait to improve my score since I do not have any varsity letters, my fitness score had to be at least average, especially as a tier three major applicant.

So, I submitted my app a week after I heard that. Wish I was on the ball and had my facts straight in September, but that’s life.

I did not apply for NROTC with UF in mind, a couple weeks later I wondered about it and noticed the deadline had passed, but checked on here and realized it was still possible for me to apply. Hence this thread.

I don’t plan on applying to UF. App fee is cheap, but my chances are low and even if things work out with NROTC, I did not list UF on my top 5 list, I think I’d pick some other schools over UF and and a couple other reasons.

Thanks though for all of the input.
