I'm part of TAP....now what?

I got into UC Berkeley's TAP program, what are the benefits, what is involved with being a member?

.......................

Bump, HE NEEDS ANSWERS!

i think it just means you're poor or from the ghetto

^ Brutal truth, that just about sums it up.

let me get this straight... you signed up for something you don't even know what's it for?!

Pretty much you will be given a Berkeley rep from the TAP program. This Rep is your personal counselor, you can contact them with any question regarding to coursework, how to improve your chances, questions about Berkeley, etc. As a TAP student you are also able to apply for a paid research project that will give you the opportunity to do research with a Berkeley professor over the summer and you will get Berkeley credits. IF you are from SoCal they offer you an all expense paid trip to fly up to Berkeley for the weekend have a couple of seminars let you see the area and take you to SF.

When it comes time to apply you submit your application and they will review it and check for mistakes and give you suggestions on what to add and what to leave off. You also submit you personal statement to your Berkeley rep and they will review it and give you suggestions on revisions and how to make it better. And although it is not stated anywhere as a benefit of the program, Berkeley TAP most likely increases your chances as members of the Berkeley TAP program as about a 90-95% admit rate to the university. If you have any other questions let me know.

Wow, looks like Berkeley's TAP program is light years better than UCLA's. Where do I go to sign up at SMC?

I dont think berkeley has a tap program, Only UCLA does.

^ They do, but it has some more requirements to join, and it is not very well known.

The reason the Berkeley TAP program is light years ahead of UCLA is because the TAP is not/may only partially be funded by Berkeley. The Transfer Alliance Project is funded by the private Jack Kent Cooke foundation. Given these outside resources Berkeley has more funding to provide this more extensive program.

So what are the requirements for TAP?

you need to be poor, a minority, and be part of the list of ccc's that have the agreement for the TAP

you need to be low to middle income they will take your tax information and see if you qualify. You do not need to be a minority as I am white and was a part of the program but if you are a underrepresented student (minority) I think it helps and you also need to be a first generation college student.
