I'm probably going to be laughed off of this forum...(Barrett Honors College chances)

Hello. I am a high school senior at an Arizona college preparatory academy who is interested in applying to the Barrett Honors College at ASU. I'm also applying to Berklee College of Music, Knox College, California State University Monterey Bay, and University of Northern Colorado, as well as just ASU, but I would specifically like to know my chances of getting into Barrett.

GPA: 2.667 UW/3.500 WT
Classes are not ranked

Current Schedule:
Drama II
Honors Calculus B/C
Honors Chemistry
Honors German III- Lit./Comp
Honors Humane Letters IV (My school's combination of history and literature)
Studio Art II

SAT:
Math: 610
CR: 570
Writing: 640
Taking it again in two weeks

ACT:
Taken once. Have not yet received the scores. Will likely take again.

Extra Curriculars:
Playing guitar for around four years
Playing guitar in the school's jazz ensemble for three years
In the school's men's choir for three years
In the school's high school select choir for two years (Performing at Carnegie Hall this upcoming Easter weekend)
Frequent usher at concerts for the Phoenix Chorale.

Notes:
I am capable of writing an effective essay and I am likely able to obtain the four maximum letters of recommendation that Barrett allows.

My school's classes (especially Humane Letters) are based around the Socratic method, which is used in Barrett's mandatory Human Event classes. I dunno if they'd care about this or not...

Also, I know my GPA is quite weak, but from ninth grade through eleventh grade, there is an upward trend (2.46 UW to 3.00 UW), which I have heard stands out to the people in charge of admissions.

Thanks.

I am not specifically familiar with ASU’s honor college, but your stats do not seem strong enough based off of my general familiarity with honors colleges.

You need amazing test scores because your GPA sucks…No other way to put it

Well, a little less bluntly would’ve been nice, as well as “another way to put it”, but I thank you for your honesty.

You should focus on raising your SAT. That’s really the only thing that can affect your chances which could be improved between now and application time. Also, try to get straight A’s during the first semester of Senior year. That will help to put you in a better position in the eyes of an adcom.

Good luck!

Excellent! Thank you! :D
