I was the kind of kid who did not take school very seriously in high school, I believed the purpose of going to school was to get good grades and a perfect attendance that would satisfy my parents. When I was a freshman, I had no clue how hard my parents were working to raise me while guiding me in the right path so that I could pursue a college education and obtain a degree that would get me the job of my life according to my aspirations. As Vietnam War Refugees, my mother didn't have the chance to obtain her college degree while my father wasn't financially able to go to college at all! In America, almost a decade later they know the importance of an education so they went to a technical college to acquire certificates in order to receive wage boosts that would benefit their low wages. I took on a job during my freshmen year of high school as a Team Read tutor where I helped my mother with her tasks as a janitor after every session of Team Read that I had finished. From that, I've realized the importance of an education that would allow people to apply the skills and knowledge that they have within them that reflects towards their salary and job. Unfortunately, my mother does not have this opportunity. From Team Read, I've learned to apply my basic knowledge and skills about education to help my student exceed his grade level of reading. From that, I've learned that the purpose of an education is to acquire knowledge that would be used to apply towards benefiting the well beings of others. I said mom, I want to be an aerospace engineer one day, I want to join in with the development of aerospace technologies that would benefit our planet in so many ways. My father also currently works as a school janitor.
