I'm really nervous my grades aren't doing so well...

Hi guys so I just finished my first year of college and my grades are really not good. My current gpa stands at a 3.0 and I know that will get me nowhere. Plus I have two C’s in my general biology classes. They were just difficult at first but I really do want to do medicine. I have confidence that I can do really really well next semester when I become a sophomore. What are your thoughts? Is it impossible to get to med school? Should I just turn away?

Medicine is all about biology and chemistry. If you cannot master these you can’t be a doctor. Right now, your hole is probably too big to cover, but you can try another semester and if you cannot get ALL As, you should consider a Plan B.

What if i retake these classes

Grade replacement is not possible for med schools(MD and DO). So even if you get 2 As for the bios retake, your average GPA for these two classes is still a 3.0, won’t help you at all for med school application.

Pre meds should not retake any class they’ve passed with a C or better. The best way to demonstrate you’re med school material is to move on to upper level classes and earn As. Adcomms look favorably at upward grade trends.

While a 3.0 is not the best way to start your pre-med journey, it’s not fatal either. But you should plan to delay any application to med school until after college graduation. This will give you extra time to raise your GPA.

You need to figure out why you aren’t succeeding in your science classes. Please make an appointment with the academic support center at your college. They will test you for potential learning disabilities and help you develop more efficient study techniques. Also, next semester, be sure to sign up for free tutoring thru your college’s academic support center.

In addition to what Wowm said, I may add that you should try to attend all your science professor’s office hours. In that, the professors may give more study tips, directions of important test areas, answers to your specific questions etc.

Thank you guys for all the thoughts any additional comments would be greatly appreciated
