I'm really scared and have a VERY unusual transcript. Will I get in to one of these?

First off, I have a 3.0 unweighted GPA, and only 3.3 weighted. Not great. My SATs are pretty good, with a 1270 (690 Crit Reading, 580 Math), with a 710 in writing.

Now, the thing is, even with those things, I was a member of a Gifted and Talented Intensive Performing Arts program for all four years, and I'd go there in the morning (it was at another high school), and then in the afternoon go to my local high school for my academics.

My extracurriculars are specialized and very good. Religious peer leadership, community service, youth group, and lots of plays.

I have an excellent essay.

I'm taking a chance and applying to these schools. Do I have any chance whatsoever? I'm NOT applying for a BfA. Mostly applying as a Communications major.

NYU (ridiculous, won't get in there, yeah, I know)
Boston U
Maryland College Park
Northeastern
Emerson
U of Delaware
GWU
Syracuse
Penn State

I'd like to add the performing arts program counts as an honors course, and is in lieu of electives.

I also have a great recommendation from an English teacher and my guidance counselor.

I think you will get into Northeastern anad Emerson. Very good chances at BU. NYU (reach for most), PSU (gpa focused) and Syracuse (very competitve communications program) will be tougher. Don't know about the others. Other schools to consider that are strong in what you are interested in are SUNY Purchase, Ithaca, Goucher, Quinnipiac and Rutgers. Good luck!

NYU--High High Reach
Boston U--Maybe
Maryland College Park--High Reach
Northeastern--Probably in
Emerson--no idea
U of Delaware--probably in
GWU--High Reach
Syracuse--Reach
Penn State--High Reach

Best of luck.

NYU--High Reach
BU-Possibly
MD-Reach
Northeastern--Reach
UD- MAYBE....your really going to need to show them that you want it...because although your SAT's are high your GPA...is well....not so high. But heyy good luck to you! It's my first choice!
Penn State-- depends if you are instate or out of state. Instate--good chance out-of-state: hard to sayy

Hope2budel, the Penn State decision is 2/3 gpa. The average for incoming freshmen at Penn State main campus is around a 3.6-3.7. A branch campus might be possible, but I really don't see University Park happening.

yea....i see what you mean with the GPA, but i know alot of ppl that are getting in instate with like 3.5 GPA's and a 1000 (reading/math) to main

Bumping this to hopefully get a few more opinions.

Sorry for the bump but since my resume is so unusual I would love for a few more opinions.

I'd like to add, for extracurricuars, I'm hugely involved in religious peer leadership and I also work on and off as a classroom aid for sunday school.

However, my SAT 2s are only okay (only did them because I had to) - bio 620, 580lit (which will hopefully be countered by the 690 on SAT 1s?)

Heard from:

Rutgers
Maryland College Park
Drexel (safety)
Syracuse.

In at Rutgers, Drexel, and Syracuse.

nervousashell: Newhouse, A & S, dual, or art &design????? Congrats!!!

I didn't try for Newhouse, got into the Communications and Rhetorical Studies program. :)

Also:

Accepted:

Juniata College

Rejected:

Penn State (Not even into Altoona!)
