I really want to go to a good college but I really messed up my chances last semester. I want to go to a UC/CSU or a good college in state but I’m not really looking to apply for a college out of state unless it’s NYU. It’s second semester of my junior year and I have a 3.5 (weighted gpa) When i finished my sophomore year i had a 3.7 and I thought I could get it up to a 4.0 by the end of my junior year, but I ended up getting 3 Cs. I really messed up, I hadn’t really learned time management and on top of that I was going through a lot of things and I was under a lot of pressure. My gpa dropped and now I’m highkey freaking out. I’m ranked 150 out of the 520 people in my class. My grades were all As and Bs freshman-sophomore year (one C my first semester of freshman year) Took AP euro, honors english, and an extra class my sophomore year to bust up my gpa which ended up being a 3.7 by the end of my sophomore year. Now it’s my junior year and i had Cs in Algebra 2, Honors Chemistry, and French 3. I’m aiming to get straight As this semester, but that’s if I learn how to manage my time and focus in class (chem, french, and algebra are my hardest classes). Freshman year I was only involved in a few clubs. My sophomore year I was involved in ASB, the same clubs as the year before, and did community service. This school year, I have a part time job, publicity commissioner of ASB, involved in link crew and a non profit that creates community service projects from scratch (which takes up a lot of my time bc it’s a lot of networking). I received a low score in my ACT but i’m planning to retake it so i get a higher score. I’m still really scared about not getting accepted into college because of my gpa. The colleges I would like to go to are Cal, UCLA, and UCI but i know my chances are really low now. I’m now thinking about applying to CSUF, UCSB, and i’m not really sure yet. Does anyone have any advice for me??
You are on the home stretch gpa- wise, so do your very best! UC/CSU only calculates your GPA from 10th & 11th grade. SDSU, CSUF, CSULB, & Cal Poly Pomona are all excellent choices and they don’t count extra curricular activities at all. Admission is based on a score that only counts your GPA and test score. You still have an opportunity to attend a great university. Focus on your studies & practice ACTs & finish strong. Be sure not to take any crazy AP science or Calculus next year if you think there’s any chance of getting a D. D or F in senior year can get your acceptance rescinded. Good luck!
you have lots of great colleges open to you. I’ll echo the advice above, DON’T take a bunch of hard classes next year, Sr year course rigor is more likely to hurt than help.
if you have a 3.7, decent SAT/ACT. ECs and essays. UCR and UCM would be your best bet for the UCs. Any CSU except SLO would also be thrilled to have you. There are also public schools in neighboring states that offer big tuition discounts to high stat students under a program called WUE. Uof Hawaii, UNR and Boise State among them.
