I'm ruining my life! Help me with my schedule!

Now that I have your attention, I am having a very bad problem. I'm an incoming sophomore and am 80% sure that I want to major in Biology. I have taken no courses toward the Biology major yet and am rapidly falling behind. My SAT math scores place me into Math 096 and I haven't had a chance to take a new placement exam to get into the math class I need to be in. I also haven't taken a Chemistry placement test to get into General Chem. So I have to save Math and Chemistry for Spring (Of my Sophomore year) - which puts me really behind.

So I figured I would get done what I can this semester and take both Biology 196 and 197 (Principles of Modern Biology). So my schedule looks like this:

BIOL 196 + LAB
BIOL 197 + LAB
WOMEN'S STUDIES 113 (To get rid of a Social Studies & Multicultural req. at the same time)
SURVEY OF POLITICAL THEORY 200 (Because I possibly also want to be a lawyer)
FRENCH 113 (Language req.)

Overall it's 17 credits, which is good. However I'm not sure I should be taking BOTH of the Biology courses. Is it too much to handle? Should I drop one and add another requirement instead? The thing is, that if I DO end up majoring in Biology, having both of those done would help me a lot, because I'm already behind.

But at the same time I'm not sure that I really want to be a biologist. I thought that's what I wanted to do, but I'm kind of waffling back and forth between that and law. Any advice?

It all depends on your school.

At my school, although bio 1 is a pre-req for bio 2, the material really isn’t related and you could in theory take both in the same semester (problem being bio 1 is only offered in the spring, and 2 in the fall).

Well both of these are offered this semester and they aren’t prerequisites of each other so I can take them both. The question isn’t whether I CAN, but whether I SHOULD.

Do it. It will be more expensive in the long run if you don’t.

I’m taking an upper level anthropology course along with a lower level one, i think i’ll live~

It’s manageable. I took two science courses at one time my whole freshman year, and my second semester of my sophomore year. They were different sciences (Bio + Chem, Bio + Physics) but same concept. It’s manageable, so long as the course load for those other classes isn’t ridiculous.

First semester sophomore year I didn’t take two science classes, because I was taking a ceramics class as well, so I just took Physics that semester.

Your schedule seems do-able, though.

I changed my major from English to Bio towards the end of last semester.

So I am taking Bio(w/ 3 hour lab), Chem(w/ 3 hour lab), Calc, and Western. Civ. all at once.

It’s gonna be hard but it’s not like its impossible.

Same with you.
