Hello,
the reason I am extremely scared is that I practically failed my first semester. No, I did not fail any classes but I failed to get a 3.0… All my fault, yes I know. It was extreme mental issues and such. I’m recovering this second semester with a 3.5? I wonder if there’s any way I can still enter a UC or a well nearby CSU school, maybe UCI or UCLA or CSULB or CSUF, IF I DO EXTREMELY EXTREMELY WELL MY JUNIOR YEAR. I am taking 3 AP classes, Chemistry ( I plan to become a chem major), APUSH, and English Lang, next year. I plan to work hard over the summer (studying, crying, and practicing tennis).I am also trying to make CIF (a tournament across southern California) as a tennis singles player. I am also Key Club vice president, needlepoint member, and NHS member. IF I GO IN THAT DIRECTION AS I PLANNED. Will those kind of schools accept me or am I just fucked forever. PLEASE HELP ME IF YOU DON’T THINK IT’S IMPRESSIVE ENOUGH.
Schools I plan on applying:
Reach: UCLA, UCB
Main Main goal:
UC IRVINE
CSULB
CSUF
backup:
Cerritos College ( I REALLY DON’T WANT TO GO THERE PLEASE HELP ME IM GONNA CRY)
YES I PLAN TO WEIGH A 4.WHATEVER THANKS TO MY SCHOOL’S NEW SCHEDULE AKA BLOCK SCHEDULE!! WHICH ALLOWS ME TO STUDY MORE EACH DAY. THANK GOD. IT ALSO ALLOWS ME TO PRACTICE MORE AND MORE THANK YOU LORD.
First of all, please calm down. I am sure if you do very well in your junior year and first semester of senior year, you can probably get into a CSU. I don’t think UCB or LA are realistic, sorry to say. Maybe UCM. Anyway, you have to do your best and work hard. I think it’s a sign of maturity that you acknowledge your mistakes, but what’s done is done.
FWIW, I attended Cerritos for three long years. I majorly goofed off and got put on academic probation. Even Cerritos has its standards. It was fine, and certainly nothing to cry about. Eventually I graduated from CSULB. I have a fine life. So will you. If you end up there, then you do everything you can to get the best grades possible and transfer out after a year. High grades in your junior and senior years, along with a good test score, will help you a lot. You are lucky to be in CA, because the credits from CCC are easily transferable to the CSU’s. Good luck.
You can’t do better than your best, OP. No point in worrying about what has already happened. Resolve to do your very best work this upcoming year, be smart in developing a range of affordable schools to which you might be accepted and would be happy to attend, and all will be well.
Jesus Christ, I messed up one semester of GPA due to mental issues. Y’all act like I failed every class every year, went to continuation school, and got special education classes.
Wow, what’s been going on at CCC since my day? I actually CHOSE to attend CCC rather than go to USC. True. Community colleges are not a death sentence. I will give my standard speech about all the famous people who attended comm college…actually, just look it up. Lots of people, including George Lucas.
Look, you are resposible for your poor grades, but there is not point beating yourself up anymore. How do I know if you can or can’t get into UCR? Maybe. In short, the better you do, the better your chances. You probably can get into a CSU. Please stop being hysterical. That isn’t going to help you.
You need a balanced list. If you are applying only to CA schools, look at the statistics of admitted stduents. Look for students with your GPA and test scores. The higher up those numbers are in the percentile ranges, the better your chance, basically. Apply to a couple of safeties, several matches, and a couple of reaches. Good luck.
Who said I wasn’t responsible for my grades. My mental health, my fault. Okay cool. I don’t care if you know or not. Of course, I’m damn hysterical. ITS MY FUTURE, I SHOULD BE CRYING AND WORRYING OVER IT BECAUSE OF MY POOR ACTION DURING MY FIRST SEMESTER OF SOPHOMORE YEAR… Y’all are so rude to kids who are TRYING. Have you ever heard of the 5% percent rule for college, okay whaever, CC changed. It’s mostly for kids who literally gave up on high school in my community/ generation. People would rather go straight to USC if they had the chance, and those are the kids who tend to do even better in life now. Thank you for your harsh critic and your good lucks, good day.
@plzacceptmeucs:
You got great input so far.
Do your best. If you only get into Cerritos College, that’s fine. Really excel there. If you do, then when you transfer to 4-year colleges, they will look seriously at you.
Take a deep breath. There’s no need for all caps. It’s easier to understand your message without them.
Are you just finishing your sophomore year of high school? Speak with the guidance counselor at your school. They can help you pick courses, and when it’s time to complete college apps they can help you create a balanced list and write a letter explaining any issues you’ve encountered.
I still need to take finals. I already picked my courses for next year.
I chose:
AP Chem
AP US History
AP Lang
Physics CP
Pharmacy
and Math 3 (Pre Calc? I believe)
I mean, biology as a freshman, chemistry as a sophomore, physics as a junior or senior, which could be at regular or honors level depending on the student’s interest and level; plus one more, which could be A&P, APES, Marine Biology, Astronomy, Earth Science/Geology, or AP Bio or AP Chem.
Physics regular can be combined with another science course, but adding a third one (such as Pharmacy) would be too much.
AP Chem or AP Bio require a student to have taken regular or honors chem/bio before, ap Physics 1 has no pre-req, AP Physics C should be taken after (or concurrently with) calculus.
In addition, the student above is missing level 3 in a foreign language. It may not be necessary for a CSU or a lower-tier UC, but it may help with private colleges.
Other possibilities include Montana State, NAU, Colorado State, Western Washington. All good universities if WUE fees are affordable for the family.
