So I'm a junior and have a 3.7 weighted GPA and 30 ACT
I'm taking really rigorous classes and my school is uber-competitive
Is it still possible for me to get into a decent school like a good UC, Northwestern, or U Washington?

Oh, and I’m involved in and have leadership in multiple clubs, have over 200 volunteer hours, and play sports.

Sure. If you are in-state, make sure your UW GPA is greater than 3.0 for the UCs, and out of state >3.4. Though, your GPA should be a bit higher than that obviously for a decent chance.

I would say for schools like Merced and Irvine, you have a good shot, but for UCLA and Cal you should try to get your ACT closer to a 34 and try to build up your GPA quite a bit by the time you apply, which I’m guessing will only be this last semester.

Northwestern is pretty much a mid-high reach, and UWash about the same.

However, I don’t understand why you think you can not get into college which high stats like yours. Apply to those schools but also apply to more. 3 schools is definitely not enough in this era of selective admissions. Do some in depth research on what you want to do and what schools are good in those programs, especially schools that are not so tough for you to get into.

Thanks for your reply!
My UW GPA is about a 3.5 right now groan
And I’m planning on applying to other schools, UCs are just more of my focus right now. Does anyone know how hard it is to get into impacted bio majors are at mid-tier UCs such as Irvine, Davis, or Santa Barbara? (I’m in-state, by the way)

You need to calculate your UC gpa, that’s what they use. 3.5 doesn’t tell you much without knowing what classes you took UC gpa is capped, but a more rigorous schedule your Sr year will be noted as a positive. At this point put everything into your gpa, it is the most important thing at UCs. Keep your grades’ up sr year. For Impacted majors you will still get in, just not to the major, so have some less selective backups if you are set on that major.

Also there is no chance you won’t get into any college as long as you are realistic and have safties like everyone should have.

I have a nephew who went to Mission San Jose HS. He had your GPA stats but he was accepted by UCLA, UCSD and SJSU all in CS. He had good SAT though. Don’t worry about it if you are from ultra competitive HS, the adcom would know that.

My sons stats weren’t too different from yours. He received a 31 on his second stab at the ACT, and a 2060 on the SAT. His unweighted GPA was 3.3-3.4,but the UCs obviously weighted his course-work very generously. He got into UCSD and Davis, but Berkeley rejected him. He is from out-of-state. I’d say that UCLA and UCB might be reaches, but worth a try. UCSD and Davis are probably high matches/low reaches (depending on your ultimate test scores and grades); UCSB a match; other UCs low matches to safes.

wzmama,
Actually, it is easier for OOS to enter UC than in state. UCs are strapped with money, they will lower the gate for full paying OOS.
