I know my scores are on the low side, but I’m a hard working student and I love Cornell (applying there ED). The other schools I'm thinking about applying to are JHU, UPenn, CMU, BU, Rutgers, Brandeis,Rice, and GW.

So how good are my chances? :)
Thanks
E.

I think Cornell, even ED, is going to be a high reach, to be honest.

I don't need to explain the SATs, you're aware of that.

Also, since your SATs are low, you need some awesome EC's to balance the scores out. The problem is your EC's are adequate, but not great and safe for Ivie's.

These are my two cents, but don't get your head down.

Mock trial-lobbying. You'd be a fine candidate for Cornell ILR. My d is a Junior at Cornell ILR. What school are you planning to apply to? Maybe it is coincidental, but I've noticed that ILR likes to keep their male/female ratio pretty even. As more guys apply to ILR (of course that could change at any time), it seems that a well qualified girl may have a bit of an easier time getting into ILR. It seems more girls apply to Human Ec, so the opposite may hold try at that school.
The most important thing with Cornell is to show your passion and really connect to the program you are going to apply to. Try to visit the school, and go to the specific college admission tour. When my d went, she toured Human Ec. and ILR as she was not sure which school she was going to apply to. There were only 3 kids doing the ILR tour that day and she had a lot of personal contact with the ILR admssion counselor who gave the tour. I really think that personal contact helped alot.
You may also want to think about taking the ACT in Sept/Oct. You may find that you do considerably better on that test.
You seem to be a very dedicated and well rounded kid. I think you'll do fine in the admission process. Good luck.

Did you check out Univ of Rochester?? That too is a wonderful school and I think you will be successful to gain admission- especially if you show interest in the school by visiting or seeing if they will have an Admission session in your area. Same can be said for CMU. I know my d attended admission sessions to both those schools in the NYC area.

ur sats come out to be 2010...I dont think its THAT bad...the range for cornell's sat is within ur reach...and ur ecs are good i think

<a href="http://apps.collegeboard.com/search/CollegeDetail.jsp?collegeId=15&profileId=6%5B/url%5D">http://apps.collegeboard.com/search/CollegeDetail.jsp?collegeId=15&profileId=6</a></p>

Cornell is definitely possible, but don't count on it.

If it doesn't work out, most of the other schools are slight reaches (equal or little bit easier in difficulty to Cornell). Make sure you have some safeties (more schools like Rutgers).

Presuming you score at least 680 on either your Math or Bio SAT II, your AI (which the Ivies use to determine admissions--among other things) comes out to 211.5

Last year's cutoff scores for the Ivy league schools was 211--meaning you are right at the borderline. Your rank is what's pulling you up, your SAT scores (especially the SAT I) is what's pulling you down. You need to score about 720/720 on the Reading and Math parts of this tests to firm up your chances. (getting a 720/720 would up your AI to 215). (But only take the test 1 or 2 more times tops--never more than 3 times total is the rule).

Also, marny's comments are exactly on the money--touring the school with an admissions counselor and showing your passion through personal contact as well as your essay will go a long way towards getting you in. Cornell is usually considered the easiest to get into of all the Ivies (their motto is "easiest to get into, hardest to get out of") so you have a shot here--and should definitely pursue it.

As far as the others:
Penn--reach
Brandeis/John Hopkins/Rice-match to slight reach
CMU/BU/GW--match
Rutgers--safety

Good luck

thanks for the replies :) I took the june sat today so hopefully my scores went up!

i think you have a good chance!!!!!!!!!!
