i took SAT in sophomore year
and i got a 2050
(cr: 640/ math: 800/ wr: 610)

and then during junior year i decided to take the ACT
1st time:
32
eng: 34; math: 32; reading: 30; science: 33
combined eng/writing: 33; essay 10

2nd time
34
eng: 32; math 35; reading: 33; science 35
combined eng/writing 30; essay 9

my parents are pressuring me to take the oct 2008 SAT I test
(so the results are in before early action/decision)

and im really scared what i would get; because i know SAT is just not the test for me.

im really confused
cause if i dont take the SAT I; i might just spend the time restudying for my 720 in sat ii chem ):

help?

oh right, i would like apply for
east coast big ones (yale, princeton, johnshopkins, etc as reach)
and californian schools (UCLA, USC, UCSD, UCB)
but i know even i get accepted to those east coasts; id rather stay near home =o=
hahah

the 34 is really good, and colleges would accept the ACT (check their requirements, anyway). I would just spend the time prepping for the SAT2s, and working on the other parts of the application. good luck puhoke.

that would throw a curveball then. depending on which state you are living in, that 216 might get you to National Merit semifinalist status. If it does, then one of the requirements to get to Finalist status, is you need to submit your SAT score. Now I don’t know if National Merit wants a SAT score that was taken in junior year, or if the sophomore score is already okay with them (you have to find out). If they do require a junior year SAT score, then you have to retake, and do your best to get it at least above 2000 again, because they use that SAT score to validate your high PSAT score. Do you know what the NMSF cutoff last year was for your state?

uh retaking is definitely in your favor. With a couple weeks of prepping, you can easily bring CR and Writing both to 700+. Then your in the 2200 range which will very nicely complement your 34.

puhoke, try searching for threads here on cc which discuss national merit cutoff (or is it cut-off). There always seems to be a thread for it every year. See if you’re within the ballpark cutoff score for your state. good luck.

Your ACT score is fine. Even with studying, you are unlikely to get at SAT I score higher than the SAT equivalent for the ACT 34. I would put the time into SAT II scores, which you will need for many of the east coast schools on your list. Good luck.
