I'm scared!

I got into EECS at Berkeley, and I'm seriously considering going there. But the truth is, I'm scared of the competition. I'm not exactly the top of my class right now in high school. Is it wrong that I'm thinking of going to UCLA just because I'll have a less stressful college experience? Are all the EECS horror stories true? Should I go to LA?

What's your major at UCLA?

UCLA is still very competitive and if you really have your heart set on Berkeley you should go there.

"Are all the EECS horror stories true?"

Yes, they are. The professors practice a medieval form of torture where they slice students eyelids off and force them to watch horrible cannibalistic and satanic rituals performed on freshman. It's very, very disturbing.

what were your stats out of curiousity :D

that sounds a lot better than some of the movies I've seen this year...

SAT I: M: 790 W: 800 CR: 750 (combined)
SAT II: IIC: 800 Chem: 750 US History: 740
GPA: W: 4.31 UW: not sure, but I got B's in AP Chem, Calc, and this semester Physics
APs: Chem: 5 Calc: 5 US History: 4, going to take Stats, Physics B, Lang, Spanish Lang

Oh and EE for UCLA

Don't worry you'll do fine. Just remember to go into study groups. And by looking at your stats you look really prepared. I for one should be terrifed if you're scared. Sigh, I'll post my stats anyways
SAT 1 M 680 CR 510 W 620
SAT 2 Math 2 740 US History 600
GPA 3.9 WEIGHED
APs Chem 3, Bio 2, US History 2

Even with those stats I'm still confident that I can do better cause I messed up high school, but anyways you'll do well if you keep up the good work. Good luck and hope to see you in the fall.

You'll need good study habits on top of your SAT profile to do well in EECS.

hmm beconfident i think you're smart just not much of a test taker :D

just go. dont be afraid. thats a horrible attitude lol be optomistic and work hard....it won't ruin your college experience. its worth it in the end (probably heh)

hey beconfident - did u get into either LA or Berkeley with those stats? juss wondering cuz im sort of in the same situation and wondering if i have a chance.

Haha thanks you guys, I think I'm leaning towards Berkeley.

uh ohnonomiss hes EECS for berkeley i think but just because he got in with those stats means you will ;) its really random. maybe he had some personal situation or something w/e it was he showed that he would really contribute to the berkeley enviroment.

Go to whichever school you think has the best environment for you. I can't speak for UCLA, but Berkeley is a really nice place (when it's not raining) and is less artificial than LA. Lots of trees, creeks...various grasses. Nah, the competition won't kill you as long as you keep up in class, and it can't be that much worse than LA's competition.

Okay I know this is changing the subject but do you think that you'd choose CMU engineering over EECS? Assuming money isn't a factor?

i wouldnt :)
