I’m taking the SAT on March 14th and I don’t think I’ll be very happy with my score. I’ve been practicing a lot on Khan Academy and Kaplan because I suck at the math section and I keep getting questions wrong. It’s super frustrating. I took two practice tests and I got an 1120 on the first and an 1140 on the second (using Kaplan). My dream score is a 1550. I’m probably going to take it again in June and possibly a third time in August. What can I do to get closer to my dream score?
Does your high school offer any test prep classes? Ours started mini sessions before and after school to help kids prepare. If no classes are offered, does your school have a tutoring center you can use? Can you afford a private tutor?
Are you analyzing your scores to find out specifically what type of questions you are getting wrong? If you can figure that out, you can make better use of the time you have in the next two weeks.
A 300 point increase seems pretty ambitious for six months, but maybe @Lindagaf can give more insight.
@Groundwork2022 thanks! I’m taking SAT prep classes at school as well. Does continuously doing practice questions on the stuff I’m getting wrong help? I just feel like I never know how to answer them.
I don’t think a 300 point increase is a realistic goal, so take the pressure off yourself because that’s definitely not going help improve your score. Try the ACT instead. And look at test optional schools. There are options besides the SAT.
Practice smart. Just doing practice test after practice test without addressing what’s problematic for you isn’t likely to be helpful. Try using these simple tips. No special knowledge is required. http://talk.qa.collegeconfidential.com/sat-act-tests-test-preparation/2164494-common-sense-tips-to-help-raise-your-sat-act-score.html#latest
Are you using the official tests? If so, it sounds as though you might have gone through all the easily available ones. Try looking around for tests by searching for SAT QAS, and add the month and year.
Eliminate. Find reasons why your answers are wrong, then choose the only answer that doesn’t have something wrong, even though you don’t know why it’s right. If you find yourself thinking “it’s kind of right…or…it’s not really right” it’s probably wrong. And for English and Math, put your answers back in to make sure they work.
Use Princeton Review for Engish Practice, Khan Academy for Math. That large of improvement is a big task, but if you focus, it’s very possible. One tip is to take at least one practice test every week before June.
Always take a note of the questions you got wrong, or the ones you even have 1% doubt about. Then continually solve those questions, write down your explanations on why you were confused (what you thought vs. what the truth is) and remember that for future tests. Always review these wrong answers.
I very much second @selfcontrol ; when I was test prepping for the SAT, keeping a journal of my mistakes and attempting to keep improving at them was what got me to a good final score!
I’m scared too. i am preparing for SAT. trust me, i am really worried about my math. however, i went through this post https://www.prepnme.com/how-to-overcome-your-fear-of-math/ , it helped me but i still am scared. is there anything you can suggest me for math?
