i hate and am scared when i hear it is getting harder and harder to get into top schools...(dang..average ucsd gpa reached 4.0...)
im working hard(i think..) but my grades arent so great(maybe im not so bright...)
do you guys think next year would be harder to get into top schools??

Well, it will only continually get harder to get into schools for the next few years because of the baby boomlet.

It is definitely going to become more and more competitive each year, because not only are students applying to more schools, but many are also working harder and taking the SAT multiple times in order to increase their chances.

All you can do is your best. Sit down with your guidance counselor when the time comes and discuss some realistic options for you. Keep working hard! If you don't get into some of the top schools, don't sweat it. Everything happens for a reason and you will be accepted into a school that is a good academic match for you. Good luck!

thanks guys..im kinda giving up my dream school ucla...
and hope for the best...

I heard on the news that '08 is going to be the hardest year to get into college. The government determined that by population and all. It really sucks for us juniors and I too am very scared. All i can say is good luck!!

Don't just give it up, though! Just work harder. You may not get in, but a lower acceptance rate isn't worth just giving up.

Don't give up!! That's the worst thing you can do. Try your best and apply. You never know.

my dream has been like this...
9-ive league or ive-like school
10-ucla and berkeley..
11(current)-ucsd along w/other ucs...maybe ed to nyu...

YOU CAN DO IT! WORK HARD! MAKE YOURSELF STAND OUT!! PEOPLE GET INTO AMAZING SCHOOLS WITH LESS THAN A 4.0 ALL THE TIME!!

problem though: 9-"ivy league" you may have just put this there to save time but I dont think its good if your applying to a school just because its an ivy. deff research them.

BUT YOU CAN DO IT.

ahh...crap.

I heard '09 was the worst. But maybe because I am '09. Still, sucks to be us. My brother was '00 and didn't even know that people took SAT classes while he was at an elite prep (he got into an ivy)...

I heard that college selectivity will peak out at '11.

dang it. i'm '09. oh well.

i can totally relate, cuz i never feel good enough when i read about all the amazing students who get rejected from colleges.

Looks like I will be going to Rutgers, which is pretty cool with me. I'm not applying to any top schools anyway. I bet the selectivity wont even be that bad anyway.

Yeah more and more people are just transferring. My guidance counselor called my 2 top choices that I didn't get into and asked why I didn't and they both said (and 1 was an ivy) that I would have gotten in any other year except this year because there were so many more applicants...so it's getting bad!

sigh one more time...

Come to Canada...over here schools are scrounging to fill their seats.
UVic is even starting to bribe 11th graders to apply (as a junior).

Yay for a low population.
