nickei, oh yeah it's possible, but i still believe most students can not do it.... i don't question thats it's possible.

I like to consider myself a slightly above average student who tries hard.... I am not gifted by any means and worked pretty hard and thats why i always stress study habits.

And i absolutely know that i would have proly gotten C in most science and calc classes if i were not exposed to these classes in HS.

So, basicly if u're average student like myself u need that HS prep.

They have the elementary, middle, hs, college system for a reason...

everyone needs to know what their abilities and limitations are. an example, i know people who take 19 units a semester. I know i absolutely could not do it. So, i don't... I don't think i really need to lol.

nikkei I too was one of those highschool slackers turned around. Graduated highschool witha 2.3GPA. First year at ccc 2.8 gpa. Realised I was a loser, read a book, turned life around then got 3.91 the next year and a half for a 3.689 total average. It's definitly possible. Most kids can't turn their lives around because they simple don't want to bad enough.

Sure the bio programs at SD and R might not be up to par to the programs in stanford, princeton etc.. but your gpa doesn't give you much of a choice. You'll be hard pressed to get into SD with a 2.8 and R will be iffy.

meh .. i'm also trying to get rid of my old lazy self. I've never been a horrible student and i know i could've don't much better for myself in highschool.. i was one of those kids taht took AP's / honors because my parents forced me and i did mediocre on the classes - got mostly B's dotted with a few A's. I was very apathetic, never did homework, never studied etc... When i visited my old highschool my old bio teacher was like.."HEY!, i didn't recognize you when your head's not down" ( i slept in her class every day) Anyways, after seeing my friend from highschool that was just as lazy as me dedicate himself to school i started working harder. He wanted to go to USC so badly that he pulled a 3.9 and transferred after his first year. I knew if he could do it, i could do it to so i began applying myself to school. Also, i went through some personal stuff that gave me motivation to not take school so lightly. Though i'm definitely not your model student right now, i can tell you i put in a lot more than i did in highschool.

Thanks to everybody for theri posts. Didn't know UCSD's bio program was cool and lol at the kid who said with my GPA I can't say nothing but still though "just cuz you're homeless doesn't mean you gotta wear rags". Can somebody explian the concept of academic bankruptcy though cuz seems like a good idea to just start this whole thing over for me. Yeah I'm just 18 and I knwo age is a major factor for my present situation cuz i wasn't really ready for College levelstuff yet but hey it's my path I guess. Also what's chances of gettin in for the spring 07 semester anywhere

Willdo: I slacked off hardcore in high school, smoked alot of green substances and played videogames, pulling B's and C's mostly. So now I'm stuck in community college but at least I have a 3.5, hopefully transferring to Univ. of Maryland after spring. You wouldn't believe how hard i slacked off even if I told you lol, teachers were always hounding me about turning work in, and I'd just be like, whatever.

Thats what i thought too... don't worry about it. most people would be in the same situation...

i also partied quite a bit in my earlier youth - i barely graduated HS with a 1.9 GPA. After deciding to return to school, I completed 63 credits in 11 months at a community college with a 3.75 GPA. I'm now at UVA

You need a long, hard talk with your parents which includes lighting a fire to your Ivy League apps.

Before you go to your bonfire with your parents, you need to have already figured out what YOU (NOT YOUR PARENTS) want to do with your life.
I really doubt that you chose bio (and premed?) on your own. Where did your interest in bio come from (besides your parents)? Be honest with yourself.

Back to the question of what to do with your life: It might be as simple as changing your major but it might be leaving school for a while. Being a bum isn't one of the good choices but getting a fulltime job might be a reasonable choice especially if your parents threaten to throw you out of the house. Getting another 2.75 GPA in Spring 06 means another few months of your life wasted and if you blow this semester, you might not even get into a CSU. Maybe change to an associates degree, graduate from CC, and go work for a while. If you want a BA, plan on a CSU or low tier UC for that. Try really hard to figure out what you want to do before you get even lower grades with harder science courses.
