I'm seventeen and my mom won't let me go!

I am 17 years old and I want to go to college in either Miami or Louisville. But my mom is saying that she isn't going to let me go anywhere and that if she doesn't sign the college will not accept me and I won't go. Is this true can't she stop me from getting the education that I want? I want to go out of state because of at home issues that I can't stand living in anymore. But she is forcing me to stay. Please some one help me I don't want to stay :(

When you turn 18 she can do nothing. But also remember she doesn’t have to support you either

Your mom does not have to sign anything in order for you to attend college. The problem could be paying for college on your own. Without your Mom’s (or Dad’s) cooperation it will be almost impossible to apply or qualify for financial aid, school grants, loans and some scholarships.

I don’t really mind tuition, being that I have incredible grades and many many scholarships. It’s just that I don’t want to skip a year. I am 17 and I want to go to college now. So even if she calls the school the college cannot kick me out because she doesn’t approve. Correct?

see if you can get your parents and you to sit down with one of your high school’s counselors. My friend was in a similar situation though probably to a lesser degree. Her parents (despite being filthy rich) said they would not pay for her (an EXCELLENT student) to go anywhere but UCI or our local community college. She has other issues with them she doesn’t go into detail about. She missed three days classes and had a counselor convince her parents for THREE DAYS to let her try for usc.

counselors can be very helpful if you just ask. They would make a wonderful mediator :)

^ That is exactly what you should do. You can also ask a close relative or your school teacher/etc. to do the same!!
