I'm shocked at my Financial Aid

I really wan't planning on attending GW because it was so expensive, but I got my package today and it is for $54,000. Has anyone else gotten a similar package? I'm so shocked. I definitley needed it, and now it is a possiblity that I can go to GW.
I got the Board of Trustees Scholarship for 30k and the University and Alumni Award for 10k. Can anyone tell me how someone qualifies for these? Are they guarenteed for 4 years?

I got a similar package, too! I wasn’t planning on attending, but this has made me think twice about GWU.

What are you stats??? My S’s award information is not posted yet!

Congrats to you guys! your qualifs must be impressive!

me too! without the stafford loans and work study program, i would only have to pay 7700! i didn’t think i would be able to go to gwu… but ~45k in straight up grants/scholarships? thats awesomeeee

If you receive a Board of Trustees Scholarship, does that mean you can’t get a GW Grant also?

kcreative, these are my stats. I think my awards were need-based, not merit.
Stats:
SAT: 1960 (M-680 CR- 640 W- 640)
SAT IIs: Bio: 710, US Hist: 620 Math2: 670
ACT:
GPA: about 95 UW, over 100 W
Rank: probably top 10
Other stats: 5 AP classes

I got the 30,000 Board of Trustees Scholarship and the 10,000 alumni scholarship along with pell grants and smaller grants.

SAT: 2180 (M-710 CR- 700 W- 770)
SAT IIs: Chem: 760, US Hist: 730 Math2: 690
ACT: 32
GPA: 4.0 UW 4.7 W
Rank: top 10%
Other stats: 10 AP classes

yeah, pretty friggin awesome. 55,000 with loans. 50,000 w/o any loans.

And, the predicted price for GWU is like 55,000 with 3000 or so being attributed to Transportation Allowance and Personal Expenses. Basically its a 52,000$ cost with 50,000 taken off with their generous package.

2,000 per year… yeah I’m probably going to GWU now hahaha

Are you getting your packages online or by mail?

On the tubes.

They gave me $52,000, including a $30,000 Board of Trustees Scholarship. It is now cheaper to go to GW than it is to go to my state school. I’m very relieved. But I’m still clinging to a thin string of hope that maybe…MAYBE…NYU could come through with their aid? Aha, they won’t, but I’d much rather be in New York than DC :frowning: But this aid is phenomenal, so I’ll probably wind up at GW.

“I got the Board of Trustees Scholarship for 30k and the University and Alumni Award for 10k. Can anyone tell me how someone qualifies for these? Are they guarenteed for 4 years?”

I got the same package. I’ve never heard of either of these awards, and I’d like to know the same thing, honestly. Does anybody know?

They are need-based awards. See [GW Financial Aid for New Undergraduates](http://gwired.gwu.edu/finaid-n/Sourcebook/NeedBasedAidPackage/) for more details.

did you guys apply for financial aid or is this merit scholarships? when would we find out about merit scholarships if this is not it

What are you all planning to major in?

I’m planning on majoring in political science, maybe minoring in spanish. This is the infor from the website about the scholarships-

Board of Trustees Scholarship - This grant is awarded based both on academic merit and financial need. Like the GW Guaranteed Grant this award is guaranteed for as long as the student is enrolled at GW for up to 10 semesters of full-time study. The amount will never decrease as long as the student maintains full-time status and continues to make satisfactory academic progress towards an undergraduate degree.

The University Alumni Award - This grant is awarded to students who demonstrate financial need. Renewal is contingent upon completion of at least 12 credit hours each semester, maintenance of a 2.0 or better grade point average, reapplication by the published April deadline, and continued financial need.

Congratulations to all who received such terrific aid packages! GWU can be very generous!
