Ok so basically I can't take AP French anymore, even though I did a 70 page packet plus a practice free response portion of an Exam for my Summer Assignment!!!!!

basically its because I was in 3rd period AP government, but they deleted 3rd period because it was only 3 ppl, so they put me in 1st period Ap government...but i had ap english lit 1st period so now tha has to be moved to 2nd period because 3rd period there is no ap eng lit, and 4th period is the only ap calc ab period, 5th period is the only wind esnemble, and 6h period is the only ap physics c so i cant change 4h 5th and 6th...so now ap lit has to be 2nd period, which is the ONLY period ap french was offered!!!!.....I DID A 70 PAGE PACKET FOR THis CRAp and they are acting like it isnt even a big deal!!!

Wow... what complaining. Life's unfair, just deal with it. My teacher once joked in class that we had a 20 page single spaced paper due the next day. I was the only person in class that did it. Boy did I feel stupid when I tried to turn it in. But I turned it in a few months later when I applied to MUN club. It rocked.

why are they only realizing that the class was going to have 3 people now? we have all our schedules finalized by the time we leave school for the summer in order to avoid situations like this

Yeah, I would just say go with the tides of the ocean, b/c that's all I could do, and I read A Civil Action twice just so I couldn't take AP Gov twice so it's just something that you have to deal with. Yeah, the school is horrible at scheduling, but what can you do, honestly, just suck it up and go on with life.

Schools are terrible at scheduling, last year my school wanted to change from 6 periods to 8 periods, we chose our 8 classes and left for the summer assured that we would have our 8 classes, once we came back everyone had to fix they're schedules because the school noticed that it didn't have enough money to hire more teachers...... lets just say alot of people were ****ed.

I hope that doesn't happen to me. For some reason I have a feeling it's going to happen in my freshman year and I won't be able to take a class of my choice.

Hmmm, you just sort of learn to deal with it, granted you'll be upset that you did all the work, but I know both times I couldn't take AP Gov I was actually happy about all the reading I didn't have to do, plus each year they had a totally different curriculum and both were absolutely painful with the amount of projects and essays they had to write, so...

I’m kinda worried about my schedule, too. I filled out a form for a schedule change last week, which was three weeks before school started. The counselor told me that she see what she could do, but she couldn’t promise anything because classes were already filling up. All I can do is cross my fingers and hope for the best.

^^ Too big of a district. They've already separated 9th & 10th ("high school") from 11th & 12th ("senior high"), but there are still 2000+ kids at the "high school" where I'm going. There are only so many teachers and hours in a day ;)

My counselor called a few days back telling me about my schedule conflicts. It seems this year more than ever they are having scheduling conflicts, because so many teahcers quit or decided to teach at the new high school across town. Honors and AP classes are only being offered once, so if AP French is at the same time as Honors English, then one will have to decide whether or not they would have to drop down to the on level classes. I managed to fix most of it; I had four scheduling conflicts. Instead of taking AP Spanish, I will be taking Honors Spanish IV through the local CC (but I will still take the AP test), also the AP Studio Art class conflicted with AP English class, the Studio Art teacher agreed to let me take it as an independent study course during another one of his periods. I had to do some compromising, but in the end, I think it has worked out for the best, luckily other than the AP Spanish course, my schedule remained mostly the same.

Oboesmrtguy40: I'm so sorry that your class schedule did not work out the way you wanted it to. I also had AP Spanish homework (we had to take online quizzes and read a book in spanish, which would all count as our very first grades for the semester), I hate to admit this, but I was too lazy to start on it (I had to read the book for an assignment last year). I'd be angry if I actually did the assignment, and the school cancelled the class. Atleast you didn't find out on the first day of school that your schedule wouldn't work out...

well i had ap french and orchestra conflicting junior year, and both are only offered once in a day. i took french as an independent study (basically as a test subject). did only required graded work, and took the final. it's really hard though, alot harder then taking the class (which i surely would've gotten an A or higher in without trying as much). try taking it as an independent study, it'll impress colleges.

I've had scheduling conflicts every year. Freshman year I couldn't take AP Comp Sci A so I took Music Theory instead. Sophomore year I couldn't take AP Bio so I took Physics. Junior year I couldn't take AP Comp Sci B so I took Robotics, which I hated, so I dropped out and took AP Bio. Senior year I won't be able to take AP Lit so I'm taking Honors instead, and I'll have to take AP Comp Sci B as an independent study course. I also couldn't take a politics course that I've REALLY been looking forward to; I'm stuck with AP Euro instead.

Wow... my schedules have been decent if not great for all 4 years. I've gotten pretty much everything I want, and have had it at decent times. I <3 my counselors, they rock.

Now to the OP, do you really need Wind Ensemble? Can't you drop that, try and get your english class 5th period and get into AP French 2nd period?

One chem class had one person in it my sophomore year. They made it just so that other people with scheduling conflicts could switch into it in the first few weeks of school. It ended up having 15-20 people.

You have to understand that they can't just change the schedules around for one person, or even less than 10 people, because it's hard to please everyone. There is a conflict between Orchestra, AP Chem, and AP US History this year at my school for quite a number of people, and it's not going to get changed. Unless enough parents complain (a VERY common situation at my school) you have to take your only choice, even if you hate it.

But I agree, it DOES suck. I've been wanting to take Journalism/Yearbook for 2 years now, and every time I sign up, I have to take some stupid elective that I absolutely hate.

This year I expect a lot of be wrong with my schedule because of what guidance calls "singletons." Singletons are classes that only run one period. Last year honors Chemistry was a problem, so they had to add an extra class. My singletons this year are AP Bio, AP Psych, Italian IV Honors, and maybe SAT Math. So unless I get really, really lucky, I'm going to have problems.
