I'm so lost...

Rank: 18/~250 so top ten percent
GPA: 3.78 uw/4.45 w (big upward trend after freshmen year, GPA is ~3.9 UW without freshmen year)
SAT: Ugh is all I have to say. 680 CR/680W/590M (aaah). The weird thing is I took the PSAT three days later and got a 210 (78 CR/71 W/61 M). I don't know what happened to me. Whatever, I'm retaking in June and keeping my fingers crossed.
SAT II: World History- 720, will take US history and Lit on May 5

APs: 4 on AP world history, will take APUSH, AP bio, and AP lang this May.

EC:
Cross-Country: varsity for the last three years, captain jr. year and will be senior year as well, a few minor awards but i'm not good enough to run at college or anything
Track: 2 years on varsity
Indoor track: one year
School newspaper: Two years, copy editor jr. year, may get some editor position senior year
NFTY: Jewish youth group, two years
Key club: Two years, will be treasurer senior year
Indoor Track: One year
10 years Jewish Sunday school, teacher’s assistant jr. year
I was also page for the state legislature.

Chances:
Georgetown (EA)
UVA (my dad went to law school here, not sure if that counts as a legacy?)
UNC, but OOS
Johns Hopkins
Michigan (they don't look at freshman grades do they?)
Northwestern
Ohio State
Northeastern
GWU
Maybe NYU?

I have a couple of safeties in mind and I know my SATs are really low for most of these places but I will retake!!!

Aww come on help me out! I know I'm nowhere near perfect so I could use some advice.

Law school at UVA should count as legacy.

I just joined, I'm not really an expert! But, objectively looking -your GPA is fine. Or it could be better, even though it's really the same as mine, but it's enough to get you in the door.

The SAT certainly isn't though, for some of the schools you're aiming for. But:

What state are you in? And what major are you aiming for?

I don't see any focus in your ECs, so it's hard to tell what major. The page for the state legislature part is good, though, especially if you're interested in politics and everything.

You look like a slight to general reach at Georgetown. Applying early is statistically around a 5% increase in acceptance rates (up to 25%), but you usually get more competitive applicant pools then. If you're aiming for politics (although I have no idea! Just thinking about the page position), it's going to be especially hard -Georgetown's amazing there.

GWU looks like a match. Northeastern would likely be a slight match/safety. Ohio State, if you're in state -you should be in. Northwestern is a reach, JHU should be general reach, UNC a match to slight reach, and UVA a slight reach.

Michigan might be different, so long as you apply early (rolling admissions). I don't believe they count freshman grades, if I remember, but I could be wrong. You'll have to bump up SAT scores though -it'll likely be a match then, if you apply as early as possible (or in the middle, when the top applicants have already passed through. Just don't wait until late).

It'd be easier if you could specify a major. Everything could change a lot with increasing the SAT, too, so make sure you study for that.

I actually forgot to put another one of my EC's. I'm a reporter for the teen section of my local newspaper, have been for two years. I want to major in English, maybe psychology. I know my EC's seem to be rather random, but I didn't really go into high school with a plan to do whatever looked the best for my resume, as it seems like so many people are doing these days. I just did what I enjoyed.

Also, if it helps, I live in West Virginia (the seperate state from VA, many tend to forget we exist haha), practically on the Kentucky border, but still WV. I'm probably one of the only Jewish kids in the whole county. I know that we are a pretty underrepresented state at many top colleges, don't know if that really helps.

Bump. Help me! By the way, thank you so much for your help, acidtest.

Georgetown (EA) - Rejected
UVA (my dad went to law school here, not sure if that counts as a legacy?) - Rejected
UNC, but OOS - Rejected
Johns Hopkins - Rejected
Michigan (they don't look at freshman grades do they?) - Rejected/Waitlisted
Northwestern- Rejected
Ohio State - Accepted
Northeastern - Accepted
GWU - Accepted/Waitlisted

I think DukeAlum is wrong

Well thank you! I was getting a bit discouraged there... Any other suggestions?

your resume is creepily similar to mine: 4.45 gpa, im 32 of about 500, similar SAT scores, mine are a touch higher, and extracurriculars look pretty similar, and im going to be vice president of key club of my school next year.

I think you can get into everywhere but Georgetown, Northwestern, and maybe UVA, as long as you have good essays and recommendations.
