So I am stressing myself out over my Calculus grade simply because it's terrible. I had gotten an A all year round, and a 5 on the AP Calculus AB exam, but now in Calc II, in college, I am potentially failing (either an F or a D). My school (Florida State University) doesn't offer forgiveness, but they do allow you to retake a class you received lower than a C- in. I plan on retaking Calc II if I end up with a D or most likely an F! I missed a quiz because I was sick and didn't think to attend the recitation (since he usually gives in class quizzes) and I missed a quiz. To help me out in getting even a D so I can get some grade points, can you guys give me some advice? I have a meeting with my professor on Friday, and I want to ask to make-up that quiz from a few weeks ago and/or get extra-credit or something.

Go in to see the prof with a plan for how to improve your overall grade and understanding of the substantive course content (e.g., tutor, study group, etc.) before you discuss extra credit and things like that. Take ownership of the issue and let him know that you want to learn calc not just get a good grade.

I don’t know about where your personal professor’s policies, but most non-intro level classes (my calculus class being one of them) don’t offer tons of extra-credit. What does the syllabus say about make-ups? I know some profs will make the final optional/use the final as a make-up/lowest grade replacement, etc.

Just retake the course. Put your energy into your other classes.

I managed to withdraw from the class, and still keep all my scholarships. Yay!
