Sorry guys, but I have been looking at this one "M"edium question from the Blue Book for a while and I totally cannot figure it out. It's on page 647: Test 5: Section 2: #8... From every strategy book i've read, I've been told that there is only "one absolutely correct answer" to each question. Except, on this question which asks how "the author's attitue toward the portrait is best characterized" I can't figure out why the answer is not "awe" but rather "appreciation". I've read the passage again and again and it looks to me like, if anything, the authors attitude toward the "portrait" is one of awe more than it is of appreciation. Can somebody help me with this? What am I overlooking?

AWE 1. A mixed emotion of reverence, respect, dread, and wonder inspired by authority, genius, great beauty, sublimity, or might:

Perhaps you are confusing an emotion with an attitude....could that be your clue???

I think that's pretty strange. Is that the only reason? Can anyone else confirm? thanks

appreciation=
1. Recognition of the quality, value, significance, or magnitude of people and things.
2. A judgment or opinion, especially a favorable one.
3. An expression of gratitude.
4. Awareness or delicate perception, especially of aesthetic qualities or values.
