I'm stuck.

I only applied to 6 colleges

UC Berkeley
UCLA
USC
UCSD
UC Davis
Santa Clara University

My top 2 are CAL and UCLA but I can't decide between the two. Berkeley is obviously the better school for engineering but the environment doesn't seem so good. Everyone is competitive and the campus looks kind of old. UCLA, although it may not be ranked as well, looks incredibly nice and everyone seems cool. So I really don't know where to go!

What are my chances at Cal and UCLA?

UW GPA: 3.807
W GPA: 4.42
I am ELC.

SAT: 2140 800 M 630 CR 710 W
SAT 2: Math 2:770 Chem: 720 World History:700
AP Tests: World History:4 Calculus AB:5 Physics B:5 US History: 3 Literature:3

UC Berkeley 50/50
UCLA 50/50
USC 50/50
UCSD In
UC Davis In
Santa Clara University In

How is it only 50/50 when ELC gives me a 60% chance? My school is very competitive also, so it’s not like my ELC doesn’t mean anything. We already have 1 person going to Yale and 3 people to Stanford.

what’s ELC?

It’s when you’re in the top 4% of your class. So basically you’re guaranteed UC Davis and below.

Ok. What does it stand for? Just curious

I’m not familiar with the UC’s… sorry, can’t chance you.

lol it stands for Eligibility in the Local Context. If you’re in the top 4% of your class you automatically get into all the UC’s except LA, SD and B. I think it’s UCLA- target, UCSD, target/probably in, USC- target, UCD- in, and idk about SC lol sorry! good luck (:

So what’s your opinion on Berkeley vs. UCLA. I’m not just basing it on academics because the answer is obviously Berkeley then. I want to know how the experience is at Berkeley vs. UCLA.

oh dude, i’d totally go with UCLA. it’s in the middle of EVERYTHING, has fricking amazing food courts (i’m sorry but that is a legitimate factor in college choices for me) plus great programs. Both those schools are obviously amazing but if i had to pick, definitely LA.

Is there a huge difference in Berkeley engineering and UCLA engineering? I know there’s a huge gap in the rankings but does that really matter? For Undergrad atleast?
